After all of
the unique meals we’ve eaten lately, Bev was ready for a burger fix – perhaps her
favorite food. We had meat in the
freezer, marble rye left from the weekend and she decided on a patty melt –
only my second one ever (link to first one). Since the rye
bread was pretty large and rectangular in shape, I made half pound burgers to
match it.
We invited
SIL, Pat, and friend, Kathy, to join us and they sipped wine on the deck while
I cooked – Bev loves to do that. Athough normally fried in a pan with butter, I
grilled the meat, along with the onions and toasted the bread - after flipping, I topped the meat with our new favorite white Irish cheddar.
My sandwich
was built by adding mayo to the bread, laying on the meat, then the grilled
onions, tomato, and lettuce.
It was very
good and followed by a slice of pie left from the blogger party was all we
needed for a filling meal.

A good juicy patty melt will always take care of a burger craving. Irish cheddar has a real cheesy cheddar flavor and I bet this was a fantastic cheeseburger, I mean patty melt. Speaking of Irish, their butter is our favorite. It has so much more flavor than American butter. It's nice that we see more Irish products here now. Sam
ReplyDeletePatty melts were my go-to menu choice when I was a teenager - loved them!
ReplyDeleteI have been majorly craving melty cheese lately and you are not helping.
ReplyDeleteThat looks WONDERFUL!!! We are big burger eaters here... at least once every two weeks .... and that doesn't seem like enough :)
ReplyDeleteI too would love to sip wine on the deck while you cooked for me!! Smart lady that Bev. :)
ReplyDeleteLarry, Laurie would kill for that patty melt! It's her favorite "go to" sandwich... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a patty melt in ages....now I'm craving one like yours Larry. And it must have those wonderful looking onions!
ReplyDeleteGreat job.
Now that's my kind of patty melt. It looks awesome Larry.
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks great. Much better than my lean cuisine I am eating for lunch! :)

Looks fabulous. Burgers are my favorite. I've always said, if I had to kill my own food, I'd be a vegetarian, but I'd kill a cow for a burger.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had a patty melt in way tooo long. Your version looks scrumptious, Larry.
ReplyDeleteI'm never really sure what the difference between a patty melt and a burger are, but I know I like them both very much. These look awesome, Larry. I would have done them all on the grill too.
ReplyDeletePatty Melt has to be my all-time favorite burger fix too. Although swiss cheese is my go-to cheese for them, the Irish cheddar would also be very tasty!
