After an 18 months hiatus for Covid-19, we are finally all vaccinated and back on the road in the RV. We had the chassis serviced, replaced the six rear tires, cleaned the coach inside and out, packed it, and we were ready to hit the road around 10am.
We were barely out of the driveway when we realized we had
no 120v power and as I was trying to figure out what could be wrong, Bev asked “isn’t
there something you do up there (control panel) and I realized we had forgot to
turn on the inverter, which fixed the problem.
Hard to believe how much we have forgotten over the 18 months.
We were headed for the Florida Gulf Coast but our first stop
was Pine Mountain, GA for a visit to Callaway Gardens (CG). We had been to the area twice before and again
stayed at the Pine Mountain RV Resort the last time.
While they call themselves a resort, they are really just a pretty good campground but I did like the space between sites.
On Friday morning, we headed out on a cloudy day for our visit to CG hoping to get our visit in prior to the rain moving in and luckily we did but the gardens were disappointing. We were there 35-40 years ago and the grounds were pretty awesome and a couple of years ago we thought we were just too late for the azaleas. Knowing we would be here at prime time, I was once again expecting awesome but the number of azalea plants was no where near what I was expecting (think Masters Golf Tournament at Agustal National). Here are a few pics that covered more of the pretty areas.
So the bottom line is we won’t need to come back.
After the CG visit the dogs and I rested up for the next
days drive and the ladies went shopping and were gone for several hours in the
very small town of Pine Mountain. It
seems that like many small towns with a tourism draw (CG & Franklin
Roosevelt State Park), it’s businesses are mostly shops of some type so there was
plenty for them to look at.
We left the next morning amid thunderstorms, getting
underway around 10am for the 260 mile drive to Eastpoint, FL.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven
South.

ReplyDeleteHow exciting to be back on the road. It is a shame about Callaway Gardens as it had such a wonderful reputation.
