Our First Visit To Eric’s

After a couple of tries, we finally made it up to Eric and Ann’s for a visit to their new home in Elkridge, Md., near Baltimore.  One of the things they’d already done and I’ve wanted to do for years is visit the B&O Railroad Museum, so Eric, grandkids Matthew and Sophia, and I headed out.

Apparently the roof was damaged by snow a few years ago and required a serious rebuild – here’s the inside.

The inside had the evolution of the development of locomotives starting with the one before Tom Thumb.

Civil War era locomotives.

Camelback locomotive.

A huge Allegheny steam locomotive.

 An early diesel electric locomotive.

And of course, a couple of shots of the required model RR.

All photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

It was a fun way to spend a few hours with Eric and the grandkids.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. How fun to visit the railroad museum with your grandchildren. I remember my first ride on a railroad. My parents took me to a nearby town and we road home on the train. I was just a kid and very impressed. It never occurred to me to ask how their car got home.

Have fun on your trip to Baltimore.

  2. What a fun museum! I really love trains (probably because i ride the subway so much)...if I'm ever in the area, I'll have to check this out!

  3. Definitely looks like fun.. and I love seeing the pics with your grankids in them!

  4. Glad you got up there to see them, Larry.. Looks like you had a great time. I would love seeing that Railroad Museum. Since my Daddy worked for the railroad, I have a real interest in them.

  5. I know Eric was really looking forward to going to this museum with you, so I'm glad you guys finally made it! Also, I love how completely psycho Matthew looks in that one picture. I look forward to seeing what other pictures you took given that I have advance knowledge of your activities up there. :) Have a great day!

  6. Glad you had a great time. It looks like fun. But anytime you can spend with the grandkids is fun. See you soon.

  7. Larry, As you know, I am a train guy! What a beautiful museum... The B&O museum is now at the top of my list for our next visit to the D.C./Maryland! Thanks and take care, Big Daddy Dave

  8. that is so cool, would love to visit there sometime ... especially like the early locomotives and cars, to build such on a small scale as if only for a few passengers...

  9. Glad you got to go to the B.& O. Museum. I've went there several times when I lived in Ellicott City, in the 70's. You're in my old stomping grounds! Have fun! :)

  10. I grew up in a railroad family (my dad's entire career was with CSX), I'd love to see this place.

  11. These are some wonderful pictures of great trip. Look it these amazing locomotives which were providing quite a journey.
