Friday
was the last day at the Marco Island condo for Bev and Pat and the others flew
home that morning. They spent the day
packing up to leave and getting in some final lay-around-the-pool time while I
got the RV ready to travel. The daily
highlight was this:
It
is a Salty Dog made with some fresh squeezed Florida grapefruit juice. I’m supposed to be careful drinking the juice
while taking a statin drug and I’m always careful with the salt, but decided I
could handle one. Here is a final shot
from Silver Lakes out the RV windshield before we pulled out.
The
next day, we moved about 60 miles north to the Ft. Myers area and Cypress Woods RV Resort and, like Silver Lakes, it is a
legitimate resort. Also, like Silver
Lakes and many others, it is an ownership park with over 400 sites and is
unique in that it limits the number of sites that can have park models on them
(mobile homes). In our case, the person
we rented from is a full time Floridian living in a double wide and the site we
are in is owned by her Snowbird brother.
This is a Google Earth shot of the resort (a small town).
This
is our site and before we had the coach finally positioned, Bev had already exclaimed,
“I really like this place.”
The
utilities all worked fine but unlike a place where all sites are rented, they
don’t have park-wide WiFi and although it is wired for cable, you must go to
the cable company and arrange for service.
Fortunately, we had the local TV channels, the satellite dish, and a hot
spot, so we were fixed. One of my
favorite parts was the afternoon shade provided by the thick trees and shrubs.
These are shots up and down the street from our site and one of the Newell parked across the street for Russ.
This is their Town Center with club house, pool, tennis courts, etc.

On
Sun, we just got settled in, the ladies transferred their condo stuff into the
RV, and we went for a drive around the area including the original downtown Ft.
Myers. Even though I had been to Ft.
Myers many times to visit my sister, I had never been into this part of town.

Have
a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

Enjoy your time there, looks like a nice place.
ReplyDeleteLarry, There is nothing like a calming water view... Waking up to that every morning on a winter day wouldn't be all bad! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteGreat relaxing view for sure, ocean, lake, river does it for me. Looks like a large resort. Love the drink, but I have that problem too with grapefruit. Take care
ReplyDeleteYou have to stay away from the original downtown Ft. Myers between 3 and 6 PM, because the traffic crawls. But it is pretty. I hope you're having fun, but, having been there at exactly this time a decade ago, it's freakin' cold at night, which is not what Florida advertises! Glad you guys are having fun.
ReplyDeleteI've been following your latest trip --and also enjoyed seeing all of the wonderful meals you made when Bev and Pat were gone....If George were gone for a week or two, I'm not sure I'd be that ambitious when it came to cooking.... But--I do know how much you enjoy cooking... I love to eat --but not crazy about cooking! ha
ReplyDeleteI lived in Venice, FL --in the early '70's, and we loved that area. That was BEFORE the interstate was in that area... I remember going to Sarasota and hunting sharp's teeth.... Great memories.
Hugs,
Betsy
Wow! That is a nice looking RV resort. I love how private the space is with all the plants, trees, and bushes around it.
ReplyDeleteYou're supposed to be careful drinking grapefruit juice with a statin? I had never heard that. And a tip when you don't have fresh squeezed - A carbonated product: Bai Bubbles Grapefruit Juice - fabulous. And speaking of fabulous, this park looks beautiful. Have a wonderful trip.
