I awoke Sunday morning very well aware that I’d spent the previous day at the Durango Oktoberfest and didn’t want to get moving too early so it was late morning before we headed up into the mountains north of town (lot's of shots to follow). I thought we’d been good neighbors but by late morning our section of the campground was pretty lonely.
I also discovered another Prevost Coach in the campground, but this one was pulling a trailer for their Harley's.
We started
up red rock canyon just north of Durango
I thought the road over Wolf Creek pass was a little scary, but this road made it seem like the interstate - at least I was driving a small car and not the RV. After
crossing the 10,910' Molas Pass, we finally dropped down into Silverton (2010 population of 638).
Well this post is already too long, so I'll tell you about the rest of the day tomorrow.
Have a great
day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

I can be like a kid when I see scenery like this. Snap, snap, snap, each shot looking even better. Thanks for taking us along Larry.
ReplyDeleteHappy trails.
Sam
The scenery is absolutely breathtaking!!
ReplyDeleteooooo - ahhhhhhh :) The scenery is spectacular. I really like that photo with the orange Aspens going up hill.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sam and the pictures didn't really do it justice.
ReplyDeleteJenn like I said to Sam - it's even more so live.
ReplyDeleteThanks LA - We tried to get lots of Aspen shots in varying coloors.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my favorite places in the whole world! You should do the train trip - it is amazing. And eat at the Chattanooga cafe if it's still there! I need to do this trip again. Such fun!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that just gorgeous country up there? We went river rafting somewhere near Silverton on the "Arkansas" river I think it was. Your photos of the blue skies make me home-sick for the West. But they're pretty blue here too! What a super trip you two are having!
ReplyDeleteTricia - One of my life-long desires was to do the train, but we couldn't take the dogs and I didn't want to leave them in the RV all day. Maybe another time though.
ReplyDeleteRoz - we've had a great trip and now on the way home. The mountain posts in a day or two will break your heart.
ReplyDeleteLarry, Nice photos indeed! You've provided inspiration for our next Colorado/Western USA adventure. Isn't this a great country!! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteLarry, I'm so enjoying your trip as this is the same trip that my husband and his friends did on their Harley's.
ReplyDeleteYou are on my favorite mountain road! it IS scary in some spots - and I've been driving these mountain roads for 20+ years :) Good for you Larry and good thinking not taking the RV for this part of the trip. The aspens are beautiful this time of year. Onward to Oray, one of the prettiest spots in all of CO :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave - look forward to sharing more when we get home.
ReplyDeleteKaren - I sometimes find it hard to believe this is the same nation I live in as it's so different - but the people are pretty much the same.
ReplyDeleteWow the scenes over the passes and red rock were simply stunning! And could that sky be any bluer? Just gorgeous.
