Mother’s Day At Almost Heaven South

Happy Belated Mother’s Day To All Of You Moms

Bev decided she wanted a steak for her Mother’s Day supper and for her that means a filet.  We also invited our friends Pat and Kathy (and their fellows) to join us as their kids live out of town.  For our steaks we had two rib eyes provided by our neighbors for themselves, four filets, and half of a prime strip steak for me.

I gave them all a light treatment with the Jaccard then marinated them for six and a half hours in The Best Steak Marinade In Existence – last hour at room temperature.

We began the evening with a 4:30 happy hour in the sunroom - too wet for the dock.

Bev made a salad and we baked some russet potatoes that were oiled and salted.

We ate our salad and the first pan of hot homemade rolls while the grill heated.

I’ve found that I’m not the worlds best steak griller so I decided to let the guy from each couple cook theirs to the way they like them, but they ended up talking me into it while they watched.

This is my plate which included a piece of Pat's ribeye for a taste test.

For dessert, Kathy brought homemade strawberry pie from her berry crop and we had half of a French silk pie from a bakery in Dayton, TN - I failed to get a pic.

The Verdict:

I did better with the steaks than normal and everyone seemed pleased with how theirs was cooked and with the flavor from the marinade.  The desserts were awesome and I look forward to Kathy's next pie. Since the evening lasted until 9pm, I believe everyone had a good time and the ladies enjoyed their Mothers Day - of course after eating the ladies congregated in the kitchen while us guys stayed in the sunroom.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  2. Larry, It's hard to beat a good steak and the ones on your plate look great. Have you ever tried baking the potatoes by oiling the outside and coating them with Montreal Steak Seasoning? Yum! Bev's rolls are impossibly great! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
