Carver’s Apple House and Restaurant is located near Cosby Tennessee (a wide spot in the road nestled in the mountains about 20 miles northeast of Gatlinburg) and is the retail arm of a 75 acre orchard with 40,000 trees and 126 varieties of apples.
Now into the 8th generation, the orchard was started in 1942 by Kyle Carver. While it's getting late in the season, many trees we saw were still loaded with apples and had ladders in them.
In addition to apples, they also have seasonal vegetables
and a full range of the pint jars of everything you normally find in places
like this. Since it was leaf season and
the place was packed, I used pics from the web so the inside could actually be seen - the restaurant is over to the right.
Before we went apple shopping, we ate lunch in the restaurant which serves breakfast and lunch and when we arrived there was a pretty good wait and when we finished eating the line was even longer. This is leaf season in the Smokies and the tourists show up by the bus load. This is a shot of us and from our table and you can see plenty of empty seats even though many are waiting outside as they were short staffed, like many other places.
I forgot to get food pics but this is the menu and we had the grilled and the fried chicken fingers, 4 pc fried chicken, and catfish for yours truly.
It was all good, especially the chicken, and came much quicker than we expected. The disappointment was that they didn’t have their signature apple fritters and the fried apples seemed more like they came from a can.
All-in-all a fun day trip to the colorful smokies and we
came home with several bags of apples which Bev will be turning into real deal
and delicious fried apples (Allulose sweetener) for breakfast.

Have a
great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

Larry, We've never been up to Carver's but it sounds like we've missed a very satisfying destination. We'll put it on our calendar for 2023 in late August or early September. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteLarry, I had the pleasure of enjoying apple season this year in Upstate New York ( leaving tomorrow). I loved the crisp weather, the market similar to the one you shared. we picked 23 lbs of apples. Ate what we could, and one apple pie later, and we gave the remaining apples to the kids. So much fun. Look forward to Bev's apple creations.
ReplyDeleteVelva
I would of ordered 3 slices of bacon and an apple pie

ReplyDeleteDon't think I've changed anything to make that happen
DeleteLooks like a fun and tasty adventure. It's too bad they didn't have apple fritters.
ReplyDeleteWow, I need to go there when I visit Knoxville in November. Not sure why I don't get your post updates anymore. I'll try to subscribe again.
