Southwestern RV Trip – Days 37–38, Tombstone Again

After yesterdays Biosphere II drive and tour, we had decided not to do much but clean up a little and fix supper but would you believe the girls just had to go back to a gem show for one last visit (their 4th) – is closes on Sunday and I guess they couldn’t stand the possibility of missing out on a bargain (prices were marked down 30% during their last visit).

Bev had been craving pasta with meat balls but we didn’t want to make them so I went on line to see what I could find.  On a "Taste Of Home" site, I discovered their ratings for frozen meatballs and their top choice was Natures Rancher available at Whole Foods which we just happened to pass on our way home from Biosphere II – so we picked up a couple of bags.

During our trip to Wisconsin last summer, we discovered Rao’s Homemade Marinara Sauce and Bev had brought two jars of it from home.

So while the girls shopped. I added both jars of sauce a one package of meatballs (about 20) to the Crock Pot and cooked on low for three hours which was just right to get everything hot.  Then it was boil up some pasta, top with meatballs and sauce and enjoy.  I got no pics but we all thought the meal was very good and while the meatballs were denser than we make them, I would definitely buy them again.

On Saturday we headed back to Tombstone for Vigilante Days which was a Saturday and there was much more happening including gun fights and hangings, live music in the saloons, and lots of folks dressed in period costumes and performing reenactments.  Hard to believe how many more people were in town on this special weekend vs. the first time we visited.

As the girls went off shopping, I stopped at the first saloon I came to with live music - the Four Deuces.  I sat beside a guy who was a vet, rode a Harley, and lived across the street in a 5th wheel - so he could crawl home if necessary.

We had a nice chat and then I moved up to Big Nosed Kate’s where I met the girls for a late lunch and we had some interesting conversations with other patrons - the place was packed and really jumping.  Even Willie Nelson (or a close double) was there.

The guy providing the music the day was very entertaining and even sang “Take Me Home Country Roads” for me.

We got this shot of the Dragoon Mountains on the drive back - Cochise's stronghold was in these mountains.

Another fun day in the desert and when we got home these were our across the street neighbors.

That's a high dollar, elite Prevost on the right not sure what to call the other one except it may eventually grow into a Prevost.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South

  1. Your ladies sure do like to shop. Hope they are finding wonderful bargains as a reminder of your visit to the southwest. You picked a lousy year weather wise though.

  2. Like Jim and Sandie said, this winter has been one of coldest, west and windy one we have experienced here in 13 years we are usually running our air conditioners mid February.
Love the vigilante days in Tombstone always lots of fun stuff going on and as you found out BNK's is always a fun place to visit.
That pasta meal sounded yummy too.

  4. Looks like a fun day. I wonder how many times that Willie Nelson guy has had his picture taken?

  5. And by the way - I'm surprised they didn't run into Heather. She was at that show for 5 days. But I know it's a big place.

  6. Somehow, I'm betting you didn't break out your black duster and string tie for the Tombstone visit. It sounds like it was a fun day!

  7. Larry, Thanks for the tip on the meatballs! Hard to find good ones at the grocery. That guy certainly is a Willie Nelson doppelganger! That Prevost you photographed looks similar to the big RV I told you about that parks in a yard on TN 72 in Loudon... I was wondering what the heck it was because it was so damn big. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
