Visit With Our Kids and Grandkids – Part 3 – Off-Site

In addition to playing on the lake, the kids did several off-site things while here, beginning with a visit to Bald River Falls in the Cherokee National Forest near Tellico Plains, TN.  Only part of the gang went and they got to see some good water coming over the falls and play in the pool at the bottom.

They also explored our local cave and we rode the boat and jet ski down to Calhoun’s at the Marina for their lunch buffet, which included feeding our leftover bread the three feet long carp – it sometimes looks like you could walk on them.

While I’m not a fan of Calhoun's BBQ (their signature offering), this is one of the better buffets I’ve eaten at, especially the fried okra and fish.

On Thursday, the three adults and four of the kids went down to the Ocoee River for a day of zip-lining and white water rafting - not sure which outfitter they used.

I hear they had a great time - we didn't go but we made a big pot of sloppy-joes for their return and we went off for an evening with our wine group – a nice reprieve.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  2. Larry, Wow! That was a busy family visit for sure! You put your watercraft to work, visited the falls and got down in the river (something I've never done there) and then a large part of the family really jumped out there with their adventures on the Ocoee! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  3. You always make me homesick for Tennessee. Our kids grew up playing in the Tellico river - and I have so many photos of them front of Bald River Falls. The water looks lovely. I haven't rafted the Ocoee in years - such fun!

  4. What a great Summer Vacation they're having. And that pot of sloppy joes sounds like a great treat to come home to.
