BLT At The Dock and Strawberry Pie

Now that we have the dock cleaned and open for the season and the temps have moved into the mid to high 80’s, we have moved our happy hour to the lake where the still-cold-water makes the air temp noticeably cooler and we have a great view.

For this day’s supper, on the dock, we had what may have been the best ever BLT composed of the following:  vine ripened tomato and tomato bread from the Mennonite market, lettuce from the neighbors garden, crispy fried Benton’s bacon, cheese, and mayo.

The first shot shows the color of the very tasty bread and the second shows the construction layers.

We (Bev, Pat, Cindy, and I) started happy hour about 15 minutes early (4:45), ate our sandwiches around 6pm and followed them up with a slice of Bev’s strawberry pie (berries from the Amish) made using a recipe from All Recipes to which she added a small packet of plain gelatin.

Then we visited on the dock for couple more hours, making for a very good evening.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them and the blue words are links.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  3. Larry, The setting, the BLT and the strawberry pie combine to make a perfect relaxing evening repast... We just made BLT's too, using bakery bread, Romaine lettuce, fresh tomato slices, mayonnaise and of course, the key ingredient,,,Benton's bacon! Stay Safe and Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  6. Best sandwich in the world. Love the idea of that tomato bread. I think my tomato bread recipe from Culinary School would be too strong of a flavor for a blt. Is that strawberry pie the recipe you've always used?
