Pat’s (SIL) BD was on Sept 1 and after several days of deliberating Bev's "what would you like do do for your birthday" question, she requested we invite
a few of her friends over for burgers and potato salad at the dock, followed by a boat
ride. Even though we couldn't invite them until the day
before, all but one were all able to
make it.
This is the girls enjoying some beverages while the guys without bad
backs gas up the boat – I cannot even imagine why they had to check a smart
phone prior to beginning, but I sure appreciate them doing it.
Bev had made some of her delicious potato salad and I
grilled up some cheeseburgers and they got some rave reviews but I did do one
thing different. My cooking method was
to sprinkle one side with Montreal Steak Seasoning mid-afternoon and stick them
in the fridge. I cooked them seasoned
side up and after flipping, I brushed on a light coat of Worcestershire Sauce (the new thing), topped
with cheese and cooked to medium.
After supper we loaded up in the pontoon boat and headed
out on the lake for a little ride and while it’s still plenty hot, the humidity
is much lower and the air is beginning to have a fall feel to it.
It actually felt a little chilly when we got back to our shaded dock, just
before dark, but we managed to hang around and visit until about
10pm. Bev and I enjoyed hosting and I
believe Pat was pleased with her little BD soiree (bet you didn’t think I knew that
word).
And just a little update on Cindy. She has been living with pretty bad back pain for as long as we've known her (despite 4-5 surgeries over the years), but it had gotten so bad she finally went to see a surgeon and he said she would require some serious repair work or soon be in a wheelchair. She had the surgery on August 23 (the damage was even worse than expected) and she has had a very rough time with the post-op pain but she is now at a rehab center and is finally beginning to show some good recovery progress. Fortunately her nurse sister was able to come up from FL to look after her in the hospital for the first week and her CA daughter flew east to help for the the next 10 days and hopefully Cindy will be functional by the time she leaves.

ReplyDeleteIt looks like Pat had a lovely birthday soiree! Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about Cindy. Back pain is the absolute worst and so darn debilitating. I really hope the surgery worked for her and that she will be on the mend soon!
Happy Birthday to Pat! Did you like the Worcestershire Sauce brushed on the burgers? And ohmy about Cindy. Hope she heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteYes and I'll always do it in the future,
