I got this recipe for Crab and Shrimp Casserole on Facebook some time ago and I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to make it which finally came about. It was just printed on Facebook without a link to another site.
Crab and Shrimp Casserole
Ingredients:
1 lb lump crab meat, drained and picked over
1 lb 40-60 wild caught, peeled and deveined, shrimp - see note
5 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
1 cup finely chopped onion
1 cup finely chopped celery
½ cup finely chopped red bell pepper
2 garlic clove, minced
½ cup all-purpose flour
2 cup milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ tsp Old Bay seasoning
Salt and black pepper, to taste
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
Note: I used Louisiana Select Natural Wild Caught Gulf Shrimp - Frozen, peeled, and deveined.
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 2-quart
casserole dish (8x8)
In a large skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter over medium heat and
saute the shrimp until just pink remove and set aside.
To the same skillet add 4 tbsp butter then the onion,
celery, bell pepper, and garlic; sauté until tender.
Stir in flour; cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk
and cream until mixture thickens.
Remove from heat. Stir in mozzarella, cheddar, Old Bay,
salt, and pepper.
Fold in crab meat and shrimp gently. Transfer mixture to
casserole dish.
Combine panko breadcrumbs and olive oil; sprinkle evenly
over casserole.
Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot.
The Verdict:
This creamy, flavorful seafood casserole blends crab and shrimp with a cheesy sauce and a crispy breadcrumb topping — perfect for comforting dinners or special occasions. It was delicious and I like that the crab and shrimp
flavors were not hidden by the small amount of Old Bay. The next time, I will make it in individual
dishes for a more special presentation.
