Hot Rods 50’s Diner, A Little Humor, and a Fire

Bev had been wanting to go to Hot Rods and we had an errand to run in town so it made sense to combine the trips.  I borrowed these pics of the diner from the web.

Like most diners, Hot Rods menu is extensive so we both studied it on line from home and each selected our meals.  Bev ordered a chocolate malt to go with her water.

For her meal, she had The Hog with fries - $10.99 – “Hot Rod's signature sandwich. A huge cut of pork tenderloin breaded in our own homemade bread crumb mixture and pan fried to perfection. You won't believe your eyes! Garnished with lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. Served with a side of mayo.”

Bev’s sandwich was very good and she got three meals from it.

I ordered the Country Fried Steak with Caesar salad and mashed potatoes - $13.99 – “Done in the traditional way, covered in a white peppered gravy.”

Mine would have been very good but the meat or the breading was way too salty, even for me but it won't keep me from going back.

Humor

Two old men are sitting in a bar.

One of them looks at the other & says

“You look familiar… where you from?”

The second old man replies “Ireland”

The first old man looks astonished & says

” No way I’m from Ireland myself, what a small world!”

The second old man then looks at the first “What city?”

The first old man says “Dublin?”

The second old man looks astonished

“No way I’m from Dublin meself! What a small world.”

The first man looks at the second old man “What school you go to?”

The second old man replies

“Saint Mary’s class of 89”

The first old man is absolutely baffled

” NO WAY Saint Mary’s class of 89 myself! What a small world!”

At this point, another man comes into the bar & says to the bartender

“Hey, Joe! Anything interesting going on?”

The bartender says

“Not really… but the Murphy twins are drunk again.”

Like much of the country, we had a serious cold snap on Nov 10 and with a high temp of 32F and snow flurries (1/10"), I could not resist building our first fire of the season.

And for this cold day, a big pot of vegetable soup seemed appropriate.

Photos can be slightly enlarged by clicking on them and the blue words are links.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. That diner food looks amazing. I bet Bev's sandwich was delish. Love the Murphy twins! Good one. And now I'm craving vegetable soup. Looks so good. Our temps have been in the high 60's and 70's. Wonder if we're ever going to get cold seasonal weather.
