Bev and I were due to stay in Sorrento for another day but Wende had to leave on May 9 so rather than find transportation for her to the Rome airport and since we had nothing planned for another day, we just all left on Friday although our flight home wasn’t until Sunday.
For our last Sorrento meal, we opted to just go up the street a short way for our second visit to La Lanterna and we all wanted pizza. We began with our usual of sparkling water and a bottle of good prosecco which made for a pretty busy table.
Once again, we shared a delicious Caesar Salad.
I couldn’t find an online menu to provide the names of the pizzas but we all enjoyed ours with the first one Bev’s, the second one Wende’s, and the last one mine.
The pizza crust is different than at home - chewier - but I hate they leave so much of it untopped around the edges. These were still the best pizzas we had. While the food was good you can tell it's a tourist restaurant as they turn over the tables quickly.
After lunch the luggage guy took our bags to the car pick up point and the valet brought the car and after a couple of hiccups we got on the road about 3:30pm. Not surprisingly for a Friday afternoon, we experienced some heavy traffic in Naples and had a couple of close calls on the narrow roads but we made the four hour drive unscathed. I felt fortunate to return an undamaged car to Avis. We checked into the airport Hilton, ate some leftover pizza, and hit the sack before 10pm – the muscles across my shoulders were tight and achy from the four hour drive. They advertise the Hilton as being a five minute walk from the airport, which it is, but according to Wende's Apple Watch, she walked 1.54 miles from the hotel to her gate at the far other end of the airport.
We had the day to kill at the hotel on Sat with our only tasks to return the rental car (went well) and do our final packing for the flight. So, I got caught up on my blog posts and Bev read a book on her Kindle and we went to the hotel restaurant for lunch. Can you believe that for our last meal in Italy, Bev had a hamburger (only ate half) and I had a club sandwich – we weren’t that hungry – but we did have our bottle of prosecco – we probably need to quit that when we get home.
