Trip to Italy Day 10 & 11 - Agriturismo (Farmhouse) Rocca and On To Siena

The morning of Apr. 22. Kathy, Bev, and Keith made a return trip to Rocca so Keith could meet them and try their wines since he missed our cooking class .  Then Kathy and Keith packed for home and along with Bev, they headed off to Siena to meet up with son Rhett and DIL Beth who were coming in from England.  Kathy and Keith would head for Rome and home after a couple days in Siena and Rhett and Beth would come back to the farmhouse in Castellina.  I was still too sick to go but they ended up with a really nice three BR apartment that overlooked Siena’s Piazza Del Campo ( main public square).  Overhead pic borrowed from the web.

The apartment turned out to be pretty high end and every one was very pleased with it and the only downside was that Bev caught my cold (Typhoid Larry strikes again) and while in Siena, she missed all of activities.

These first two shots are from the apt. window of the piazza on the night they got there and the next morning.

On 4/23, the group had a two-hour tour of Siena conducted by Alessia whom they all thought was great. - their main stop was the Duomo (cathedral), designed and completed between 1215 and 1263.

After the tour, the four young folks went out for dinner.

There is no doubt that the Italians know how to prepare and eat good food and I don't know how they are all so thin - I saw no one near my size.

While the kids toured and ate, Bev stayed in and missed what originally the most important part of our trip for her – experiencing Siena.  But we have both decided that staying out in the country and rubbing up against the grape farmers and small-town folks is more to our liking than exploring thru thousand-year-old towns.  I believe we are the opposite of most American tourists.  So, all is working out okay so far.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.
