A Little Trip To Paradise - The Resort

Bev and SIL, Pat, have been coming to a timeshare in Sint Maarten for the last several years (this is their 6th trip) and I’ve so far resisted coming as it was always at a time that just extended our long hot summer at home.  This year they scheduled a spring trip and I finally decided I would be okay with the timing so we headed out on Easter Sunday.  After a hard day to get ready and a day of flying I just wanted to pile up when we got there so my Easter dinner was Irish Cheddar cheese and crackers and a nice bottle of Bordeaux – yep, I drank it all as the girls opted for Champagne.

The Royal Palms Beach Resort is located at Simpson Bay on the south side of the island which is the Dutch side, with the north side (Saint Martin) being French.  It’s located near the airport and a few miles west of the Dutch side capital of Phillipsburg.

The back (beach side) of the building faces the ocean and pool, with swim up bar, and looks like this.

In the above shot, that's Bev and Pat in the middle of the shot under the cabana nearest the water.

The front (street side) of the building faces the Simpson Bay Lagoon, which is home to many serious boats, and the canal, which is between the ocean and lagoon, and a part of Simpson Bay.

Our room is right at the draw bridge which opens a few set times a day to let the boats in and out and results in the daily boat parade – more later on this.  WiFi is only available in the lobby which is why I haven't been commenting as much - but I still read everyone's.

All photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. What a lovely place. No wonder they enjoy going. I love to watch the boats go by - my favorite pastime.

    Kick back and have fun.

  2. Looks wonderful! Wish I was sitting under one of those cabanas right now!

  3. very nice looking resort, looking forward in hearing of the locale, the people and foods

  4. Oh, wow. Sounds like a perfect trip! I hope you had a wonderful time.

  5. Thanks for sharing these photos with us. You definitely stayed in a beautiful place. We enjoyed our one day on the island and would love to be able to spend more time there.

  6. Lucky you! What a wonderful change of pace. I mentioned to my husband recently that he's been out of the Country, and on many, many trips and I haven't even been on the freeway! I need to get out more and I could do this. What a beautiful trip! Have a blast :)

  7. So many people in New England go there and say it is wonderful. I'm sure you are having a great time.

  8. Larry, Congratulations! Apparently you haven't gone 'bug nuts' yet. I'm sure that you're exploring a bit as I know that you're not one to sit out in a cabana! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  9. Woooooo--- Too bad you 'had' to go to that place ---but I guess somebody had to do it... ha ha ha ....

Gorgeous place ---all of it. We were in St. Maarten --in 2001, when we were on our honeymoon cruise to the South Caribbean... Didn't see too much of it --but loved it.

Hope you had a great time... Love the photos.

  10. Wow! That is just beautiful! I love the white sand and that ocean! Wow! That looks nothing like the beach I've been to in Florida and North Carolina. I could so go there and have a great time.

    Thanks for sharing!

  11. Rough life you're living there, Larry :)
