We have been trying to eat out more so as to spend less time on kitchen cleaning per Bev’s request. We go to Maryville quite often and about half the time we travel US-411 which takes us past Route 129 Smokehouse which we keep talking about trying.
For this day, I suggested we make a special 15-20 minute
drive there and finally give it a try as our first meal of the day so we got
there about 11:30 to find the place pretty empty.
So we could try five of the meats (not smoked bologna), I
ordered the three Pick Three Trio Platter with jalapeno cheddar sausage, pulled
chicken, pulled pork, and smoked cabbage and slaw as my sides - sausage hidden under bread.
The Verdict:
I thought the sausage, chicken, and pork were all very
good, the brisket was a little dry and the ribs were perfect for Bev – just falling
off the bone but still very moist. Bev
really wanted to go to another restaurant for this meal but when we were done,
she said this was the best BBQ she’d had in a long time and now looks forward
to going back as am I. They also offer
burgers and I thought their meal prices were reasonable considering the
quantity and quality served but at $24 & $28, I thought their per pound
prices were too high for this area.
Grass
After two unsuccessful seasons using lose seed and straw, I posted on Oct 16 about this seasons effort. The green is
the new grass from that planting, the blue is the next planting, and under the tree is the most recent one.
Tree Color
Going by what we see on the news the trees are now beautiful at the higher elevations of the Smokies and some of the local sugar maples, of which there are few, are also turning as are our dogwoods.
Photos can be slightly enlarged by
clicking on them and the blue words are links.
Have a great day and thanks for
stopping by Almost Heaven South.
