As I
mentioned in my Thanksgiving post, I’m trying to steer us away from the
traditional holiday meals (turkey and ham) to something I know we all like
better. Since Wende could only come down
on the 23rd, we decided to have two Christmas meals with the same
menu for each - grilled steak, baked potatoes, veggies, and rolls –
our grill gets used year round thanks in part to a covered patio and living in
the south but I have used it in the snow.
Wende
lives near a real butcher shop so I asked her to pick up the steaks for the first meal and she got
everyone’s favorite - one rib-eye, two strips, and two fillets. Then for Christmas Day, I cut up a whole beef
tenderloin for our steaks. The potatoes were washed, dried oiled, and dunked in sea salt.
The steaks got a coating of Montreal Steak Seasoning on each side.
For sides, we had baby carrots with a butter, maple syrup, and sherry glaze and Brussels sprouts that were steamed then sauteed in lemon, butter, garlic sauce with pre-cooked bacon, and Bev's hot, homemade yeast rolls..
Have
a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

That sure looks like some amazing Christmas meals glad you enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteWe too wanted something different several christmases ago and we also have steak. However I still fixed a ham after Christmas so we can have bean soup. Only 38 here this morning so its definitely a soup kind of day.
ReplyDeleteLarry, I'm with you all the way on changing out holiday meals from the usual. We talked about a lamb roast but settled on a prime rib roast...big enough for me to have lots of leftovers. We roasted potatoes with it too. For our baked potatoes, Laurie uses grape seed oil with Costco's Steak Seasoning. The skins are never wasted that's for sure. Wishing ya'll a Happy and Healthy New Year! Take Care, Dave and Laurie
ReplyDeleteIt is good to know that we don't have to follow the rules of others and live the way we want.
ReplyDeleteThat dinner would suit me perfectly for a holiday dinner (except the cooked carrots). They wouldn't be happy here with Thanksgiving dinner and a 20# turkey and Christmas with prime rib. I say eat whatever floats your boat. whenever! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI love the nontraditional meals. We had Hungarian Goulash for Christmas dinner with chicken fingers for the kids :) Happy New Year Larry!
ReplyDeleteWe've been eating filet mignon for Christmas dinner for the past 3 years. Everyone gets one to start, then they can cook their own if they want a second. Less work for me, and everyone's happy.
ReplyDeleteWho needs turkey or ham for Christmas when everyone loves your steaks...it sounds like your Christmas was wonderful. Wish you and your entire family a very Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Ms. Goofy likes the filet and I the strip. We love a good steak.
ReplyDeleteYUM! Now that's my kind of Christmas meal.
