One
of my favorite fast food breakfast meals is the Krystal Sunriser
and for those of you who don’t have them available – “The Krystal Sunriser is
Krystal-sized with a savory Jimmy Dean sausage patty, fluffy scrambled eggs and
a slice of melted American cheese served on Krystal's famous small, square,
warm and steamy bun.”
For this meal, I went to the fridge and retrieved two leftover standard Krystals – “a thin, 100% USDA all-beef burger patty grilled to perfection and made more appetizing by Krystal’s traditional toppings: diced onions, tasty mustard and a juicy Dill pickle - all on a square, steamy bun.”
The
Krystal company is headquartered in Chattanooga, TN and
was founded in 1932 (11 years after White Castle) and operates in Alabama,
Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and
Tennessee (one store each in VA, NC, and AR).

Maybe
my version will be a new addition to their breakfast menu, but I doubt it. I began by poaching two eggs in cups and
while they were cooking, I opened the burgers, topped each with a slice of
pepper jack cheese, some sautéed onions leftover from the patty melts, and
nuked for one minute.
This
was actually quite good and will be my new use for leftover Krystals – in case
you’re wondering why we would have them leftover, it’s because Bev, just like her mom, can’t pass up a
deal and usually buys the "Sackful" (12). But in her defense, they never go to waste.
HAPPY EASTER and don't forget to consider Krystal for next year's menu :-).

You made them even better! We don't have a Krystals or a White Castle, so I do have to make my own. Takes a little extra time, but are so worth it! Happy Easter Larry
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of these rolls before but I guess they do look like white castle's. WHat a cute breakfast sandwich!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of these before, but you've made them sound intriguing. I hope you and Bev have a wonderful holiday. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteYou never fail to amaze me with what you can do with a couple of eggs.

Well ... good...ness ....gracious... look at little puppy! Prayshus. Does she have a name? I've never heard of Krystals and Colorado has no White Castles. Your breakfast sandwich makes me want to run downstairs and start cooking. At least I have eggs this weekend. Have a wonderful Easter Larry and Bev.
ReplyDeleteLarry, We've never eaten at Krystal as we assume that the burgers are much like White Castle. Laurie used to love White Castle burgers but no more...too greasy! It does sound like we'd like Krystal's Sunriser. As for your breakfast creation, this one is definitely over the top!! Have a great Easter... Take Care, Big Daddy
ReplyDeleteThis is the best use of leftover Krystals that I have ever seen!
ReplyDeleteI have not had a Krystal in years and years.. I used to love them.. Back when I was young --we'd get about 5 Krystals for a buck!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour version of the Sunriser looks GREAT.
Happy Easter to you and yours. God Bless.
Hugs,
Betsy
Jealous! We used to pick up a whole sack after a night of clubbing back in my MUCH younger days. :) I live a little too far from any Krystals now so haven't had them in forever but I do make a homemade version. I like your breakfast sandwich Larry - that would surely make me happy! For those who don't have a White Castle or Krystal near you - they do have the WC's in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
ReplyDeleteLiving in the Midwest, I've never had a Krystal burger but I do remember White Castle! Love your Burger a la Holstein as we would call it in Milwaukee :)
ReplyDeleteI know that there are several companies that make these little square burgers but none where I have lived. I have heard that people buy them by the bag full. :) Happy Easter to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteKrystals are one of my guilty pleasures. We usually buy the sackful too but there are rarely leftovers here because the kids devour as many as we have.
