During the
winter of 2011-2012 a tree fell thru the ramp leading down to the dock and
after removing the damaged area, it looked like this.
My buddy Joe
and I then replaced this section with the full intention of replacing all of the
deck boards and railings. After a year
of no activity, I realized I’d rather take a beatin than do this job, so I
hired my builder neighbor to do it and in 4 days it looked like this.
Nothing like
having a carpenter who really knows what he’s doing to turn a sows ear into a silk
purse by cleaning up the lines and making it worthy of the dock it leads to. It's ready for this year's blogger party and I now need to check and see if there are any more trees at risk of hitting the ramp and, if so, try to deal with them proactively.
After 5" of rain, the lake was up and very muddy .

Nice job! Feels good to get a nagging project completed.
ReplyDeleteSome jobs are better left to the professionals. The ramp looks great!
ReplyDeleteLooks great Larry! I'm big on hiring people who know what they are doing & can get it done much faster than me. In fact, after living in this same house for almost 20 years now, I have a HUGE punch list of things I need to have done around here that are way beyond my husband or my capabilities. My biggest obstacle is always having the money to do it!
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful, Larry. It is always great to put projects to bed - no matter who does them :-). I hope you and Bev are having a great weekend. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteLarry, the dock looks great! As you know, I hire out almost everything...totally not handy! Now when I come to fish off your dock this spring, I won't have to make that little jump from shore to the solid section of the walkway. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteWhat a great friend to lend you a hand Larry! Mother Nature is not so nice sometimes, but the new dock looks fantastic! I'm ready for summer aren't you?
ReplyDeleteI can see why you call it "almost heaven." It is beautiful and your carpenter is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking ramp... and what a great neighbor to have too. Your crowd should give it a good test run....
ReplyDeleteThere are sometimes when it's best to just NOT do it yourself! Looks great!
ReplyDeletelol... who could blame you for calling in a professional? Looks like a lot of work... :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Larry!
ReplyDeleteSometimes hiring somebody to do the work is the wisest thing. Your new dock looks fantastic, Larry. I have 2 rooms with cathedral ceilings that need painting and I think I'm going to hire somebody for that. It's just too much work.
ReplyDeleteYour carpenter did a fantastic job on the dock and we are so looking forward to this year's blogger party!
ReplyDeleteKellie and Mike (both in Knox) told me you'd been swamped, but 5" of rain is most impressive! The new dock ramp looks wonderful. Fortunately, I have a live-in carpenter son who can be hired at a moment's notice.
ReplyDeletethe carpenter did a really good job. the dock ramp looks great!
ReplyDeleteNow that is a good looking dock ramp...professionals are usually worth every penny we pay them.
ReplyDeleteHey that turned out good. When we came by a few weeks ago, we went down there first and I saw how it was looking. He really turned it around since then.
