RV Trip To Georgetown, KY, TTer’s Rally Day 2

Day 2 of the rally began with coffee and donuts at the pavilion then it was off for an 11:30am tour at the nearby giant Toyota Assembly Plant where Camry’s, Avalon’s, and Lexus’ are made using 8000+ employees in the $7 billion factory.  The 8.1 million sq. ft. plant has a capacity to make 550,000 cars and 600,000 engines and is Toyota’s largest plant in the world.  Since I believed it would be a walking tour I elected not to go with my hip situation so I have no shots of it – it turned out to be a riding tour so I could have gone.  Here are a couple of shots from the web and I can only imagine the giant positive impact this facility has had on the local economy.

After the tour, we met the group at Fat Kats Pizzeria in Georgetown and here we are about to order.

I ordered a delicious Greek Salad

And since she always wants leftovers, Bev ordered the large Gonzo Pizza (similar to a supreme).

It was also very good and several others commented on how much they enjoyed their meals.  I thought the food was good, the service was excellent, and the prices were reasonable - we would definitely go back.

Before lunch, we drove around downtown Georgetown and not surprisingly, considering the local economy, it was a vibrant little town with all store fronts occupied by businesses.  The first shot is just prior to the beginning of town, the second is representative of the full downtown (3 blocks long) and the third one is the courthouse.

We also drove around Georgetown College which is a 1500 student private christian liberal arts school.  Hard to believe these small private colleges cost around $50k per year to attend.

Another good day in spite of the mid 90F temps - should be around 80F.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  3. Larry, Wow...that Toyota plant is something else! Too bad that you didn't know the tour was mobile because this operation would be right up your engineering alley... Fat Kats looks like a great place to eat...Laurie would consume that Greek Salad for sure! Georgetown is the type of small town that we love to visit, vibrant and alive. As for the cost of a private college, we really had sticker shock when we looked up DIII's cost at NYU including tution, room and board. He's living in a dorm in the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan. We'vs sent our first care package already... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  5. When you start out with donuts and end with pizza that is an allright day by me. We are having a mini heat wave. It has broken the 100 degree mark in the Bay Area. We here love our fog and are not prepared for this temporary heat blast.
