Sunday
was just a normal day at home - cleaning, laundry, juicing lemons, peeling
grapefruit, etc. People in most areas of
the country hear some about the border wall and most likely have an opinion
about it, but when you are staying in Tucson, it is a very hot topic with
something about it on nearly every newscast.

America's current LGM-30G Minuteman III Missile's are deployed in missile silos around Malmstrom AFB, Montana; Minot AFB, North Dakota; and F.E. Warren AFB, Wyoming and I have found many silos on Google Earth.
On
Monday, I spent a lot of time researching our options for traveling north on
Thursday should the predicted snow occur that morning.
Then we headed south a few miles to visit the Titan Missile Museum and so did many others as there was a 1½ hour wait to go down into the silo. Since Pat had already decided not to take the tour and I was concerned about the 55 step narrow staircase on a hip that was having a bad day, we decided to just look around the above ground area where they had a missile nose cone and a thermonuclear warhead shell on display.

Bev suggested we drive about 30 miles to the northwest and visit the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum but when we got there and learned that it was a two mile outdoor
walk on a cold, windy, overcast day, we aborted this idea as well – we should have
researched it a little more.
So
we decided to just go home and have lunch but shortly after leaving the park we
past a busy looking Coyote Pause Cafe so we turned around and went back.
It was a mom and pop kind of place that served breakfast and lunch until 2:30 pm and we liked seeing others meals as they came out. Bev ordered Huevoes Rancheros – 2 eggs, red or green sauce, and cheese on fry bread or corn tortilla - $8.99.

Pat
ordered the Coyote Burger – Bacon, cheddar jack cheese, onion ring, prickly
pear BBQ sauce, on a grilled bun, with a side of chili - $11.59.
And
I had the Coyote Hash – Corned beef, bell pepper, onion, potato, and jack
cheese, 2 eggs, sourdough toast - $10.59 – remember I love breakfast food.
We
all enjoyed our meals and I especially liked my hash.
On
our way back to the campground, the light bulb finally lit up when we realized
we could simply avoid Thursday's snow drive by leaving Tucson a day early – duh – and I gladly forfeited the days rent to prevent a lot of potential issues. Talk about a giant weight removed from my
shoulders and the girls as well.

Larry, Some days just work out like this one did for ya'll. Got to just keep on moving on... Too bad about the Arizona-Sonora Museum (Zoo) as its really well done. Nice restaurant find though... Still only 1.5" of snow here all winter but we had a lot of flooding with all time record February rainfall. 12.55" MTD. The lake is 3' over normal summer pool and a lot of boats have been spotted floating around the lake. Flooding everywhere with over 100 roads in Knoxville closed at one time. Lenoir City had some issues too around 321 and 11. 11 was closed between 321 and Farragut. Sunshine today! Take Care, Dave
ReplyDeleteJim and I took the elevator type thing down at the Titan Museum. No way we could have done the steps. But we also didn't have an hour and a half wait. Food looks good. Sure am glad to see the sunshine today. Really tired of the cold and rain.

ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed the titan missle museum too bad you had such a long wait. Travelling in bad weather is not fun best to change you plans when you can.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy the corned beef dish. In fact I plan to eat a lot of corned beef this month.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea to leave a day early to avoid the snow and to keep Bev and Pat warm. Like Dave said, we have had probably record breaking floods in the Knoxville area. Roads closed near many riverside roads and I suspect many basements flooded. The ground feels like a giant saturated sponge.
ReplyDeleteThe southwest region holds a lot of interesting sights for me. Although this time of year seems to be the best time to visit to avoid the very high summer temperatures. Be safe. Joe and Carol
