This day was devoted to walks on the beach, laying by the pool, hot tubing, and going to The Dock At Crayton Cove in Naples for supper. We had eaten there a few times but it’s been several years since I’ve been so the five of us plus our good friends and neighbors from home, who were also here, headed out for an early supper or very late lunch.
The location and atmosphere are very nice and this is a shot from my seat of Bev and friend Pat.
Here we are.
They have a nice menu with plenty of variety and there were a variety of dishes ordered by us – Fish and Chips, Fried Shrimp, Fried Oysters, Raw Oysters, Key Lime Grouper, and Grilled Grouper,
but I wanted to go there for the Captain’s Seafood Tower which consisted of 6 raw oysters, 6 clams, 6 mussels, jumbo lump crab, 4 shrimp and a one pound lobster for $75 – a real splurge but once every 5 or 10 years isn’t too bad.
It was very good and I was plenty full but would have been even better with warm mussels, crab, and lobster – I may make one at home again.
Gas Prices
I filled up with gas in Florida and it was $3.20/gal vs. $2.70 at home for a 50 cents/gal difference. Since Florida's gas tax is only 10 cents/gallon higher, I couldn't help but wonder who's getting the other 40 cents/gal. So I asked the internet and was told this - "Most of the gasoline in the U.S. is transported from refineries to wholesale terminals through pipelines. Since Florida has no significant pipelines, most gasoline is barged in from the Gulf Coast. The cost of bringing fuel into Florida is higher due to the absence of both refineries and pipelines."

Larry, what a great trip to southwest Florida. A great meal! I am looking forward to seeing your recreation at home. Travel always inspires me to recreate a meal I enjoyed at home too.

I must admit, I look forward to the Marco Island trip when you stay at home unsupervised. You always come up with some good food ideas. That seafood tower looks amazing. And the gasoline thing is interesting, I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteHi Larry, Looks like the gang was having a good time. The seafood looks great too. That shrimp dish caught my eye. As for seafood towers, it is what Laurie's brother-in-law Bill would order for sure! I paid $2.349 a gallon for gas at Costco a couple of days ago. It hadn't occurred to me why Florida's gas prices are as high as they are...simple answer though. I'm hoping to gas up in Kentucky before driving north to our overnight stop in Jacksonville IL... My goal will be to hold off on refilling again once we're rolling across Missouri where gas prices are similar to ours. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
