Continuing with day 7, for dinner, the Ethiopian restaurant that I had picked out from home didn't work out so Bev picked Crawford’s Bar & Grille in downtown Sioux Falls for an early supper and we were the first customers at 4:15 – we had skipped lunch. It turned out to be a pretty upscale place that included outdoor seating.
Bev ordered the Pork Wellington, described as Pork Tenderloin with Jalapeno Bacon, Braised Mushrooms, Puff Pastry, Boursin Mashed Potatoes, Asparagus, Carrots, Strawberry Pepper Coulis.
I had the Parmesan-Crusted Walleye with Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, Lemon Beurre Blanc.
The service was good and we both thought Bev’s was delicious and mine was good but I like other coatings better. We both really enjoyed the Boursin mashed potatoes and we'll make them when we get home.
Our travel for day eight was to make the 90 mile drive from
Sioux Falls to Hartington, NE and we passed through Yankton, SD on the
way. Yankton, as the Dakota Territory’s
first capital (1861-1883), was often mentioned in the shows I’ve seen about
Deadwood and the Black Hills so I wanted to at least drive thru it. It looks like a normal, prosperous American
town.
We got into Hartington about 12:30, went to the golf club
and got to watch Kathy serving her lunch crowd.
Keith and Kathy are responsible for the club house operation and cafe and someone else takes care of the course itself. So Keith and Kathy manage the bar, the café, and course tee-times, tournaments, social events, etc. They moved to Hartington as it is Keith's hometown and they wanted to get away from Texas and their ex's.
After three years, Kathy has gotten cook and restaurant
management down pretty well.

ReplyDeleteThat restaurant looks like my kind of place. Bev's meal looks and sounds incredible. I just happened to have made Boursin Mashed Potatoes a couple of days ago. It will appear on my blog one of these days. I thought it was very good. I added sour cream, whole milk and lots of butter. The boursin cheese is delicious in potatoes.
ReplyDeleteHi Larry, We've only had Ethiopian cuisine once (Vancouver B.C.) and we loved it. Too bad it didn't work out for you. In any case the grill where you dined looked really nice...and the food looked upscale like the surroundings. Laurie would have tried the Pork Wellington and I would have had the walleye. You can tell you're in the upper mid-west when Walleye is on the menu! The decor reminded me of a larger plush version of the Lazy Beagle. As for Hartington NE, that's the home of the TV Vet series "Heartland Docs" which Laurie loved. Great that you got to visit family...and explored the countryside as well! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
