It has been an unbelievably bad summer for us and RVing. It all began as we were on our way to a club rally just east of Asheville, NC where I was the rally master. We were about 60 miles into the trip on I-40 E. when we got a low coolant alarm and fortunately, we were at an exit where we could add coolant. We got back on the road and went about two miles when the engine began coughing and blowing out white smoke.
It required that we be towed to
the Cumins repair facility in Knoxville where they replaced an injector, the
turbo charger, and a cylinder kit to the tune of many thousand dollars.
We had no travel plans until
Sep when the plan was to attend another club rally in Gatlinburg, TN and in
getting the coach prepped we discovered the (critical in hot weather) front
roof AC wasn’t working so we again cancelled the trip. The problem turned out to be a partially
failed power transfer switch.
So that got repaired and we
prepared for our next rally trip to Lewisburg, WV. We tried out everything in the coach for
proper functioning and a week before the trip, we decided to make a 60 miles
round trip drive to Tellico Plains to be sure the engine and chassis were all
okay. Would you believe that when we got
home, the engine was dripping oil so we took it to the local diesel repair shop
to discover the front engine seal was leaking so we cancelled the trip and we are still waiting for
repairs.
I’m not sure the coach will
survive this last episode as Pat and Bev want to sell it. I’m not so sure I’m ready though.
We recently had someone visit
our place and asked who is that dog and it was Romeo (the black one). At the recent visit to the groomer, we had the
snouts of both dogs cut close and they looked like this.
This is compared to their normal and it’s easy to see why Romeo wasn’t recognized as he normally looks like a cute werewolf, which I think I prefer.

Wow, that is so not good news. I can understand why Bev and Pat are ready to get rid of it. But I also know how much I missed the rv (,and Jim) when I traveled this summer. Hope once the seal is repaired you are done fixing things.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds about right but so disappointing for you all. I wish the coach was problem free from the beginning….you would’ve had great travels, beautiful sights, fun places to visit and pleasure in sharing time in the RV Camps with all your friends.

ReplyDeleteOur Bigfoot RV has been having some issues lately, and with both kids busy with college & their lives, we are planning on selling it. So many wonderful memories in that RV and it will be very hard to let it go. Sorry you guys have had so many problems! Ugh. The pups are adorable with long or short hair!
