Cheese And Chocolate Fondue For Valentines Day

When I asked Bev what she wanted to eat on Valentine’s Day, I was expecting to hear some sort of grilled meat and most likely beef tenderloin.  But after s few days of thinking about it, she decided she would like fondues.  For dessert, she decided to just melt some Ghiradelli Chocolate Flavored Melting Wafers and for the cheese, we opted to use a copycat recipe from the Melting Pot Restaurant that I found at CopyKat Recipes  I substituted white wine for beer and changed the instructions as we don’t have a fondue pot.

Cheese Fondue

Ingredients:

1/2 cup dry white wine

2 teaspoons chopped garlic

1 teaspoon dry mustard powder

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

6 ounces medium-sharp cheddar cheese

2 ounces Emmentaler Baby Swiss cheese

2 tablespoons cornstarch or all-purpose flour

Instructions:

1. Shred the cheeses or slice into small cubes. Coat the cheese with cornstarch.

2. Add the wine, garlic, dry mustard, and Worcestershire to a pan over medium high heat on the cooktop and combine well.

3. When the wine mixture is warm, add one-third of the cheese and whisk very well.

4. Once the cheese has been incorporated well, continue to whisk in the cheese until it is all incorporated. Whisk until the cheese is smooth.

5. Add to a warmed container for serving.  Our Sterno died and before I realized it, and the fondue cooled some prior to my pic.

For dipping in the cheese fondue, we used pan fried beer brats, broccoli, cauliflower, and apple.

After we ate the cheese, Bev melted the chocolate in a double boiler and we dipped the fruit and filled our plates from the stove.  For dipping, we had apples, strawberries, bananas, raspberries, marshmallows, and pineapple.

The Verdict:

We all enjoyed the cheese fondue and would use the recipe again.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  2. Larry, We haven't had any type of fondue in decades. Love a good cheese fondue and your version looks great. The last time we had chocolate fondue was on vacation in the NW USA...ate way too many pieces of fruit and other items coated with chocolate... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
