On The Road For A Three Stop RV Club Rally – Day 3 - Trolley

On Tuesday, we decided to learn about Savannah by hopping aboard the Old Town Trolley for the very informative tour around the historic downtown areas.  Savannah (and the GA colony) was founded by General James Oglethorpe in 1733 and the city was laid out to contain 24 green area squares with houses and buildings around them (22 squares still remain).

The tour lasted about two hours, contained 14 hop-on-hop-off stops and went by nearly, if not all, of the squares and their neighborhoods. No pics taken.

After seeing it on the tour, we drove back down along the river to E. River Street (tourist area) for a little shopping and lunch.  Rather than shop, I got a beer and sat at an outside table at the Savannah Riverhouse Restaurant where I could people watch and see the river and I was soon rewarded with a big container ship heading for the port of Savannah, which is one of the four largest in the country.

After their shopping trip, the others returned to the restaurant for lunch.  As always during trips to the lowlands, I had shrimp and grits, and others had fried shrimp, crab cake salad,  and grilled shrimp salad.

Everyone enjoyed their meals except the crab cakes were very dry and I would have to call this tourist food – okay food at pretty high prices for the lunch menu.

After lunch, Cindy and I headed back to the RV to tend to the dogs and the others hopped back on the trolley to go back to some of the places we’d seen earlier.  It’s been in the mid to high 80’s during the day but cools off nicely as the sun sets.
