2017 Florida RV Trip, Days 3-4, Marco Area

For our first full day in the Marco Area, the others went to the Marco farmers market while the dogs and I did our normal morning activity and cleaned up the RV.  Then we all drove down to Everglades City (EC) for lunch at the Triad Seafood Market & CafĂ©  - they are no longer a market.  It is located on the water inlet into IC and surrounded by fishing boats and crab traps.  Here are a couple of shots from the web.

There wasn’t much going on at 1pm in notch season and we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

Four of us ordered the fried seafood basket containing oysters, shrimp, fish and clam strips with slaw and fries.  I thought everything was good except the flavorless clams and the fries were especially good.

EC is billed as the Stonecrab capital of the world and they happened to be in season so Pat L had an order of small claws and said she really enjoyed them.

I’ve had them before and thought they were okay but not worth the hefty price – plus they are served cold – King Crab would be my choice.

After lunch, we decided to take a shot drive on the Turner River Road to see some everglades wildlife.  We saw adult and juvenile gators and a big assortment of birds.

The next day we did one of my favorite things in Marco – go to Hoots Breakfasts and Lunch for breakfast.  It’s just a small place tucked in the corner of a little strip mall but the food is very good, highlighted by their baked in-house bread.  There were six of us with three ordering lunch, but, of course, I went with breakfast.

I deviated from my usual corned beef hash and opted for the Scramble Skillet ($8.50) described as: home fries, peppers, tomatoes & mushrooms topped with scrambled eggs and our homemade Hollandaise Sauce and I went with rye toast.  Here are shots from a previous enjoyment of this dish - it looked just the same this time.

It was delicious as expected and I believe the others enjoyed their meals as well.  We also ordered a loaf of rye bread for Saturday pick up on our way out of town.

The rest of the day was spent hanging around the pool and beach - here is a shot of Joe from the condo balcony.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.
