A Great Place To Watch The Eclipse

Our friend Russ spends the summers living on his 43’ cruiser that he keeps docked at a nearby marina and when he invited us to join him and his daughter to view the eclipse from the middle of the lake, we jumped at the chance.

Here we are boarding Miss Fit and departing the marina.

Even the captain needs a little liquid refreshment on a hot day.

We were not the only ones who thought this would be a good place for the big event.

The first range of the Smoky Mountains on a hazy summer day which lays upstream (southeast) of our spot on Tellico Lake.

Russ sent up his drone to capture our spot on the lake then Cynthia caught it.

Watching the moon slowly eat the sun and ready for totality.

The main event.

I expected it to get even darker and it was an unusual light as totality approached.  I was also amazed that with just a little of the sun uncovered it was still total daylight.

Cindy decided to make the day even more special by spending totality swimming.  She advised the water was great.

After spending just a few minutes on the main roads and seeing shots on the TV, I’m sure glad we were in the path of totality and had the lake option rather than being on the highway.  Hope all of you enjoyed this unique opportunity.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  2. Larry, Not too bad...a friend with a big cruiser and an invite to watch the eclipse from the lake... Nice! We were invited to a deck party with lots of shade and fans as needed. Great views. Good time to stay off of 444 and !!...huge traffic tie up after the action. It was stacked up from 72 and 444 to 444 and 321! Looks like everyone on that boat had a great time. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  4. We had a pizza and pie party at work and went outside to catch our 30 seconds of totality. Any excuse for a party, I would say! :)

  7. Wow, that's really the perfect place to watch the eclipse. It seems you would have a great time there even if there were no eclipse.
