RVing To Pine Mountain, GA

Our second RV trip of 2016 is underway (the first one was on January) to Pine Mountain, Ga, about 40 miles north of Columbus and 100 miles southwest of Atlanta.  We normally travel the interstates but I’ve been reading from lots of people about the joys of traveling the back roads and since we were not pressed for time, we used US-411 and US-27 to get there.  The route worked well and I enjoyed the more leisurely drive and missing Atlanta.  The only negative was the traffic lights on a 55 mph road that all seemed to be at the bottom of a hill resulting in smelly brakes a couple of times.

This trip was part of a two stop rally put on by the Tennessee Travelers Chapter of FMCA, of which we’ve been members about three years.  We enjoy getting together with these folks and the rallies give us a reason to make short camping trips several times a year.  Our first stop was at Pine Mountain RV Resort but it is a bit of a stretch to call it a resort as it was really just a decent campground.  This is the entrance area.

This is our area and all of the coaches on the right are with our group - there is lots of room between the sites.  That's us just before the red car.

Our site was fairly large and while it had a concrete pad it was overly sloped and we ended up with a 16" gap between the coach steps and the step on the ground.  I ended up driving around the campground and finding some cinder blocks to make us an intermediate step.

The WiFi worked fine but we ended up with a site that was not satellite friendly and the cable was down until Sunday.  I would stay here again but would be sure I got a site with satellite access.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. Jim just built us a step to take with us for those times when Scooter and I can't get into the rig because that first step is just too high. But even his step wouldn't get us high enough for that one. Glad you're getting out and about. My hitch itch is getting really bad but another month to go. A lot of times our definition of resort does not match with the campground owners definition.

  2. 411 is a nice drive if you aren't in too much of a hurry, although those stoplights can get on your nerves. Have a great trip!

  3. Looks like a very nice place to stay. I like everything about the back roads except the stop lights. Our GPS took us the scenic route through part of South Carolina near Clemson one time and it felt like there were a thousand stop lights.

  4. Nice to get out and about, and love the back roads, except for the stop lights, usually a much more relax journey.
We have a dish on the roof but much prefer using the tripod, I can set it up most anywhere, or we use our tv Antenna. Have fun at the Rally.

  6. I like getting large sites but it's a bummer that the satellite didn't work for you.

  7. Glad that ya'll are on the go again. Sounds like a fun trip, but can't you move to a site with a satellite? :)

  8. Looks like a great trip Larry. The back roads are always more fun. Watch out for those speed traps. I got a ticket on the way home from Florida on a SC back road trying to keep up with David.

  9. Larry, As a fan of the 'back roads', I'm glad to see that you had a positive experience off the super slab! We just got back from our 'anniversary trip'driving some roads in the VA mountains that were beautiful and interesting...but challenging even for a Hyundai Sonata! Hope ya'll are having fun! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  10. I'm glad that you are back to your RVing. As you know, we enjoy the back roads when we travel but you are right about the lights.
