I Don't Have To Remember

There has been a photo showing up on Facebook of a grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup with a caption regarding remembering this meal from our childhood, but I don't have remember that far back.  On a dreary and cold Monday after Valentines Day, Bev advised she wanted this meal for lunch and I let her know me too.

Unlike the versions from my childhood which were made with either American or Longhorn cheese, Bev made these with good cheddar and pepper jack and mine also got mayo, dill pickle, lettuce and onion.  The soup was the same as the childhood version - Campbell's Tomato made with milk.

The photo wasn't so hot, but the meal was very good and perfect for the weather.

Thanks for Stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. Bev really nailed this lunch. Grilled cheese and tomato soup were Meakin's favorite as a child. Somehow my mother totally missed the Campbell soup aisle of the store...

Have a nice weekend you two.

  3. Larry, Grilled cheese and tomato soup! Laurie's go to comfort foods for sure. (I like both too) Laurie makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches...in the frying pan with sharp cheddar cheese and lots of butter. 'Healthy' too! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  5. I am a new convert to tomato soup and grilled cheese believe it or not. Hated tomato soup and cheese as a child. My go to combo was Campbell's chicken noodle soup and peanut butter sandwiches. My Daughter-in-law makes a mean tomato soup and grilled cheese. Bev's looks delicious too.

  7. Looks like a mighty inviting combination, Larry! I could eat a grilled sammie every day, but I'd be as wide as a whale!

  10. My mother always put milk in Campbells Tomato Soup too. Every now and then I have to have it to feel like home again. Love your grilled cheese version. My favorite now is a Jarlsberg grilled cheese.

  11. Now I'll be craving that tomato soup. Bev's grilled cheese looks mighty fine. My grilled cheese sandwich as a kid was made with slices of American Cheese and lots of butter. mmmmmm

  12. I had never heard of Campbell's tomato soup before I was in college. My mother never used canned soups, but once I tasted it with "whole" milk, I was hooked. Now Bill and I consider it one of our favorite lazy Sunday afternoon comfort food meals that we can never say 'no' to. It's a perfect combo of grilled cheesy sammies and thick, creamy 'mater soup! Love it even it comes from a can!
