2016 Louisiana Trip - Day 4 Continued - Whiskey River and Pat's Seafood

Henderson, LA temps – 55/38, home temps – 37/30. 

After a little research, we soon discovered that most of the local action is on the weekends and especially on Sunday so we had a pretty full day, beginning with the visit to Hebert's (previous post) and the ladies shopping next door.

A couple of hours later we headed a few miles to Henderson and Whiskey River Landing where Jamie Bergeron & the Kickin' Cajuns were playing.  I don’t know what I was expecting but for sure it was a larger, fancier place than we found.  Here are a few outside shots and as you can see parking is at a premium but folks found a way – the first one is from the web and the second is the entrance to the club.

Inside, there were tables around the outside of the dance floor, a bar, and a stage for the musicians.  We shared a table with this nice couple from Houston who had made a point to stop over here on their way to NOLA so they could visit Whiskey River.  The third shot is out the window behind me.

The crowd started out thin but it was hard to get through the standing room throng when we were ready to leave.  It’s obvious these folks like their music, as do I, and they came to dance.  I loved the music but don’t know if we were listening to Cajun or Zydeco, but hopefully I’ll know before we leave.  Two things I am sure of is that most of the songs sounded the same to me and these Acadian folks know how to have a good time.

We left the dance hall and went just up the road to Pat's Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant for supper where I had the half Fried Crawfish and half Crawfish Etouffee and both were delicious as was the stuffed fried shrimp Bev and Pat shared - I took the etouffee and fries home for lunch the next day.

Pat's is also attached to the Atchafalaya Club - where another band was playing to a huge room full of dancers - we just stuck our heads in for a look.  This area does big time dancing on Sunday afternoon even in the middle of winter.
