Bev
and I had been wanting to visit the Charleston area since we purchased our RV and after
getting the house sitter in place and arranging for lawn mowing, we finally
made it. With Pat in Australia and Madison
visiting her folks, it was just the two of us and Sweetie and Coco. We made it a two day drive spending the first
night at the Magnolia RV Park in Kinards, SC which was a decent but pretty
basic campground but with very friendly folks running it – it was fine for an
overnight stay and they had a pull through long enough for us to leave the car
attached. The next day we dropped off
Madison in Sumter and drove on into Mt. Pleasant.
As
members of the Tennessee Travelers Chapter of FMCA, we agreed to kill two birds
and host a chapter rally while there and we had a full week to scout out the
area before the others arrived. We
stayed at the KOA in Mt. Pleasant and had a nice pull through site.
We
have stayed in several KOA’s and most of them were pretty dated compared to the
newer parks but we were pleasantly surprised as this may be the best one we’ve stayed
in. We spent the first few days scouting
the area for the rally and had breakfast at Page’s Okra Grill. Bev had JT’s Hot Mess composed of a biscuit, chicken
breast, scrambled eggs, cheese and gravy for $5.99.
I
had the catfish special with home fries and scrambled eggs with sun dried
tomatoes for $10.99.
As
you can see the meals were huge and we both loved ours even though we only ate
half - had the leftovers the next morning. Mine may have been the best
catfish I’ve ever eaten - moist and tasty with a great light crunchy batter – we will
definitely be going back.

Larry, Nice looking RV facility... That breakfast...either one of them...looks really amazing! Damn! I guess that I'd have to go with Bev's... What a great looking mess! Just add Tabasco...and eat! Take Care, I also checked out their lunch and dinner menus. Looking good! Thanks for the restaurant tip...and the prices are right on too. Big Daddy Dave

ReplyDeleteI've read that Mt. Pleasant is known for it shrimp and I've always wanted to go there for some really fresh from the boat fried shrimp, although today we eat very little fried anything, but for shrimp I make an exception. Looks like a very nice RV park and how nice that you have some "together" time with Bev. Happy Mother's Day to Bev.

ReplyDeleteHey Larry & Bev - if you're still in Charleston, my niece who is a student at the college of Charleston, has these recommendations: "Go to the Noisy Oyster instead of Hymen's for good seafood. It's cheaper and less crowded. Make sure to visit waterfront park, there's a nice gelato store nearby where you can get a cup and look at the ocean. If you have time, go to the Early Bird Diner right off the Charleston peninsula because they have the best Chicken Waffles on the planet. And Market Street is a must!" Enjoy and have a safe trip. ReplyDeleteCrankin up Willy Nelson's "On the Road Again" and mygosh that food looks good. I've always said I didn't like fish for breakfast ... but I may reconsider after that photo.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love Charleston. Enjoy your trip. Those breakfasts look seriously decadent. If you want to eat at a really off the wall place go to Bertha's Kitchen in North Charleston. Known for their lima bean dinners with pork neckbones. Warning; it is not in the best of neighborhoods and is tiny. It was featured on The Splendid Table with the Sterns. David loves those kinds of places.

I will have to write down the name of this place and check it out the next time I'm in Charleston . . . don't miss the culinary super store that just opened "Southern Seasons" in Mount Pleasant (a northern suburb of Charleston). If you're a crazed foodie, you have to go there! Enjoy your visit to this beautiful gem of a city!
