2014 Blogger Party
Chris (Nibble Me This) and I have discussed this year’s Blogger Party and have settled on the date of Saturday, June 7. At the suggestion of Dave (Inspired By eRecipe Cards), this year we will be asking you to join us at the East Tennessee Italian Fest where we will be pretending we are on a dock at the Amalfi Coast enjoying Neapolitan and other Italian cuisines. We’ll be serving up a pasta bar, salad, and bread along with appetizers and dessert.
Our plan is to ask some of the attendees to bring their favorite sauces for the pasta as well as some other items. In early May, we’ll be back with more details and an RSVP request so please mark your calendar and be thinking about the menu. If you plan to attend and already know you’d like to provide something (sauce, dessert, etc), please go ahead and let us know. My email is: grandpop1@yahoo.com.
Please feel free to advertise this on your blogs.
Reuben
Bev was still in St. Maarten on St. Patrick’s Day so I decided to await her return for the traditional meal. The plan was for corned beef and colcannon, but when the meat was done, neither of us felt like much cooking so we opted to just make Reuben Sandwiches instead.
Bev
had bought some good rye bread, we had some baby Swiss cheese in the fridge
along with some homemade 1000 Island dressing.
Let me digress – I have purchased many types of kraut and made my own on
several occasions, but I liked the brand Bev bought for the Reuben’s as well as
any I’ve eaten. It was Silver Floss, Barrel Aged and will be
the standard around here for now on.
I
know when most folks think of a Reuben, it often has this image.
But
this is way more than I want to eat and while it makes an impressive photo, I just put two thicker layers of corned
beef on mine and grilled them to get this.
Bev
said hers could have had on more layer of meat and I suppose she could be right
but mine was awfully darned good just the way it was.
Photos
can be enlarged by clicking on them.
Have
a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

Great looking Reuben Larry and it's so close it's tempting to take a bite.
ReplyDeleteWe'll definitely be at the party and will bring Meakin's famous spaghetti sauce. He's never shared his secrets, so this should be fun. I can also bring a salad if you wish. Sounds like a great party in the works.

I think your Ruben looks fantastic!!! The first pictures is just toooooooo much meat...yours seems to have the perfect balance :)
ReplyDeleteToo bad we aren't going to be anywhere close to Tennessee. I can't cook but I sure can eat and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHi there, We are back from ANOTHER trip. This time we were in Georgia checking out yet another waterfall... Check my blog today when you get a chance.
ReplyDeleteI love Reubens.... Yours looks AWESOME... Yum!!!!
Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy
Made me hungry.
ReplyDeleteLove a good reuben, and silver floss is our favourite sauerkraut too.
ReplyDeleteLove the reuben, it sounds delicious! And I'm hoping we can make it to the party!
ReplyDeleteI love a grilled sandwich, especially when it's dripping with cheese like yours. Well done, Larry. Welcome home, Bev.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great sandwich photo Larry.
ReplyDeleteLarry, Either of those sandwiches looks good to me! I like corned beef but I must admit that I like fatty hot pastrami even better... Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteI love a good Reuben sandwich! I'll have to look for that kind of kraut. Usually I buy Franks which is made here is Wisconsin.
ReplyDeleteYay, you are finally having it AFTER school lets out!! We plan on being there!
ReplyDeleteDamn Delicious!!!
ReplyDeletedefinitely never find this kind of generous bacon on the restaurant instead of homemade.....
I know delis like to pile on the meat for a sandwich but they are impossible to eat. I like your version much better. I'm been having troubles with my comments going through on blogspot again but the glitch seems to be fix…at least for now.
ReplyDeleteYour grilled Reuben looks absolutely delicious. Now I have to go see what I can find in the refrigerator.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could join you for the blogger get together... maybe someday. I think your sandwich looks better than the other. All dripping and gooey is so much better than tons of meat! It looks terrific Larry.
ReplyDeleteNow that is a sandwich to sink your teeth into. A blogger part will be a tasty event. Looking forward to the scoop.
ReplyDeleteOMG I am so in love with this sandwich! I'm biting through my computer screen right now!
ReplyDeleteA good grilled rueben rocks the house. Nothing beats a good grilled rueben.
ReplyDeleteOne of these years I hope to make your blogger party, Larry. Sadly, it won't be this year. Sure sounds like fun. A Reuben is my all time favorite sandwich and I would prefer your version.
ReplyDeleteI could eat a rueben sandwich everyday. Thanks for posting, I think I'll go out to lunch today!
ReplyDeleteThat is one beautiful sandwich! My husband would love in with you for that one! I love that you do the blogger party each year - you are the most fun people I know! Hope it all goes fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing that beats a good rueben sandwich. Love, love it.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are going to have a great time twith your blogger party.

Hey Larry, hope your summer blogging party goes really well! Reubens have never been a favorite sammie of mine, but my parents sold hundreds, if not thousands of those sandwiches at their Iowa restaurant back in their days!
ReplyDeleteYour rueben would make me very happy. The ones you see in the delis are just to big for me to eat…I usually order a half sandwich when I can. I wanted to mention how beautiful your header photo is. Spring has definitely arrived in your area.
