2014 Florida Trip –Photo Practice

In addition to professional musician Gabe who has entertained us, professional photographer Dave is also at the campground, has been coaching me a little, and inspired me to get away from the auto settings on the camera.

Here are a few taken around the campsite (shot on manual) with the second one being about the way it looked to my eye light wise and the third one with a little warmth added to the second shot to get the color right.

Then a few shots of the foggy morning taken with the zoom lens.

When I told Dave my main interest was in food porn, he advised that this is one of the most difficult things to shoot and get it right.

After learning that it was snowing at home I requested shots from a friend near our house and a daughter in Oak Ridge.

I wanted to contrast their shots with my Okeechobee photo taken about the same time at 82*.  We may be snow birds in the making.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. I can see why being a snow bird is very appealing. Good for you on the new camera settings! I am a forever student.

  2. Larry, I especially like the spider web photos and the foggy scenery. It was 6 degrees on our thermometer this morning but it's supposed to get up to 41! We had beautiful hoarfrost on the trees and shrubs too... It will be in the 50s here this weekend. It's a good thing that you stayed an extra week. How would you have liked to be stuck in that disasterous situation on I-75 around Atlanta. You would at least have had shelter and food...but everyone stuck on the road would have wanted to join you in the RV! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  3. I can completely understand why you might become a snow bird -- it's still cold up here. I like what you've done with your photography. I really like your foggy morning photos, but the spider web is pretty special as well.

  4. I could use some photography lessons. I generally do my adjustments after downloading them, but they could be better if I shot them correctly in the first place.

  6. When we lived in Venice, FL (70's) ---the Snowbirds visited us every year. We got to know them --and they would come back regularly each year. Sometimes, they would stay 3 months....

After our month here (even for a winter lover like me)---I am ready for some warmer weather. We have had the coldest month I can ever remember.... It got below zero several times and just above zero many other times. You picked the PERFECT time to be away.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. Looks like you picked the perfect winter to test being snow birds. We love south Florida in the winter and think going back and forth we have the best of two worlds. With you motor home, you can go to a difference place each year, but I highly recommend somewhere south. Even north Florida has been very cold this winter.

How fun to experiment with the different camera settings and to have the ear of a professional.

  9. Made me feel better that he said food is the most difficult. Every time I try to get away from the manual setting, I always go back. I need to take a class.
