The
day after Labor Day, we finally got serious about seeing Yellowstone, but
before we did, I consulted with our campground neighbor who had been coming
here regularly since the mid 70’s and worked in the park for three years. He gave us the scoop on the places we could
get the most bang for our buck beginning with a drive along the Firehole River Canyon.
Next
we headed for the Lower Geyser Basin and Fountain Paint Pot which contained one
of each type of thermal feature found in the park – geysers, colored hot springs, bubbling
mudpots, and steaming fumaroles. Half of the world’s thermal features are in
Yellowstone.
It
was an exciting day in the park and we got to see many wonders.

Larry, We loved Yellowstone...as much for its abundant wildlife as for it's spectacular scenery. We thought that Old Faithful was just so so...a big crowd of folks standing and sitting around to watch a geyser when there are so many others in the park without the crowds... ReplyDeleteI recognize ALL of what you did on this day... Isn't Yellowstone just awesome? We spent 6 wonderful days there (including the Tetons) ---but could have stayed much much longer. Believe it or not--but we saw 20 different waterfalls IN Yellowstone... Think we saw about 36 total that entire trip.... We are truly waterfall-NUTS. ha

ReplyDeleteWe went to Yellowstone a couple of years ago and it was one of the best family trips I've ever taken. It's truly the most amazing and beautiful place. Great photos Larry!
ReplyDeleteI hope to go to Yellowstone in the next few years. Staying away from Jellystone though, they have pesky bears that steal your pic-a-nic basket and the ranger is a bit of a jerk ;)

Stunning pictures! I literally can't wait to get out there :)! My family and I are taking one of these west coast tours next week which stops at Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, and Salt Lake. Any must see things to catch when out in Yellowstone? I know the geyser is a big one but anything out of the ordinary you can recommend?
