Honesty

My buddy Joe and I were sitting around watching BBQ Pitmasters, sipping margaritas, and philosophizing about honesty after we saw a commercial about sportsmanship (the basketball kid who admitted he touched it last before going out of bounds).  Joe and I grew up in a world of good sportsmanship (it’s not whether you win or lose but how you play the game) before the era of winning is everything came along – eg. the football wide receiver who puts on a big show of catching a pass that he knows very well he trapped.  Unfortunately this mentality seems to apply to all facets of our society.  Ever wonder what it would it be like if everyone in America suddenly had a high level of integrity?  I, for one, would sure like to experience it for a little while.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. I too grew up in a world of good sportsmanship. Most of today's athletes (and I say most because there are definitely honorable and good people in sports) would not even know the meaning of the words. And the rest of society just seems to follow the same path. I think kids today are looking up to the wrong roll models.

  2. I must be from one of the last generations that were taught that philosophy of it's not whether you win or lose - and it's sad really. I would love to see a world where everyone had more integrity... but as we both know, that's WAY too much wishful thinking! :) Great post Larry!!

  3. Larry, The sports scandals are bad enough...but then there is the corruption and constant eruption of malfeasance and immoral behavior by our elected and appointed governmental official at all levels. It can be depressing...but I prefer to look for those positive actions that make the news. There is still some hope out there. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  5. Very thought provoking - it not only applies to sports, but all areas of life as well...

If only the world was a perfect place.

  7. A thought provoking post, Larry. It is shocking to see the levels of dishonesty and lack of integrity that have become the norm today. So sad.

  8. I am with you Larry. Poor sportsmanship sure shows a lot about a person's character.

  9. In our little corner of the world, there are few sins greater than lying. Oh, and since you're capable of high performance, you'd better damn well perform well AND honestly. We have rarely been disappointed in our tribe.

  10. Oh do I agree with your post, Larry. Honesty...there seems to be less and less of it no matter where you look.

  11. It certainly is a shame, Larry! I wish I know the answer. I know I tried to start long ago with my kids.

Speaking of kids, love the shots of your grands below :)

  13. Can you imagine the chaos that would happen if tomorrow morning, everyone woke up and absolutely could not tell a lie. It would be interesting for sure, I couldn't wait to watch the evening news:)
