Our
long awaited RV trip out west is finally under way and with the house sitter in
place, the grounds care arranged, and many other details dealt with I hope all
goes well on the home front. We packed
all we could think of for the four people and four dogs making the trip.
Our
first several days are mostly driving just to get us out of the East as shown
in my previously posted plan . Our first
night was at Duck Creek RV Park and it was a nice little basic campground for
an over night stay.
As
always seems to be the case, I seriously injured my computer on the first night
out and hopefully it can be repaired or at least the data recovered from the
hard drive.
Our
second night was spent at the Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground in Goodfield, IL
and we arrived with high expectations for it but we were really too big for the
campground, so our site wasn't too good and the tires were off the ground after
leveling.
We
continue to experience nagging little manufacturing issues with the coach which
is a real disappointment so I'm currently wishing we had bought a different
brand but hopefully that will change.
After three 300+ mile driving days we rolled into the Neshonoc
Lakeside Camp Resort for two nights - the RV and my rear were ready for a day
off. The campground is situated beside
Lake Neshonoc and is one of the nicer places we’ve stayed. It obviously caters to families with trailers
as there were only two big rigs in the whole place. It has excellent facilities with a nice
playground, pool with a kiddy pool and large hot tub, concrete basketball
court, etc.
Many of the sites are occupied by longer term campers and
the one section on the lake is for tenant owned places – the campground owns
the land which is leased to the tenant who can provide a more permanent
structure if they choose. This is a shot of their lake view.
We utilized our down day to take care of a couple of
issues, with the main one being my injured computer. Following a suggestion from Madison’s
boyfriend, we went down to Best Buy and one of the Geek Squad confirmed that
the computer was fine and the problem was the screen then confirmed it would
work with a TV by buying a $25 cable. So
I bought the cable, went back to the RV and hooked it up to the small TV we had
used for outside use in the old RV– it worked fine and was a major relief as
most of our trip info is on this computer.

Have
a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

I've been thinking about you and am so glad you've checked in. Bummer about your computer, but good news from the Geek Squad that it is was only your screen. They've done a good job of transferring everything to a new one for us if you eventually need them to. Hope the issues with the coach work themselves out. I see Sweetie is enjoying hanging out on the grass.
ReplyDeleteHave a safe trip and I look forward to more updates on your adventure.

Wow, you really are traveling in style, Larry. I bet you are ready for a little break from driving. I hope you are finished with the small issues and have a stress free remainder of your trip. Great way to travel!!!
ReplyDeleteYay! You're heading west! What a relief to get that computer fixed. We depend on them so much for a resource. Madison has a boyfriend? Yogi Bear and Jellystone just don't fit for Illinois. That really should be reserved for Wyoming. :) Travel safe and keep us in the loop as much as you can.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to find a fix for your computer problems. It's a shame about your nagging problems with the RV, but hopefully nothing major happens. The camp resort looks like a wonderful place to stay.
ReplyDeleteSo far, so good :-). I love the new RV, Larry and know it will take you on many great adventures. You asked about leftovers. They are not a serious problem. Whenever possible I scale the recipes to feed 2. We almost always have company on the weekend, and when I do have leftovers they become lunch the following day. You'll also notice that I do a lot of Asian cooking. I've found that the portions are right-sized for us. I hope your weekend is off to a great start. Blessings...Mary
ReplyDeleteIt seems that everyone who buys a new rig spends the first year getting lots of little things fixed on them - whether it be fifth wheels or Class A's. Quality control seems to be non existent in the RV world. Glad you're on your way. We're having record heat out this way - just to let you know.
ReplyDeleteLarry, The RV site on the lake looks pretty nice. That TV/cord connection probably kept you from having a nervous breakdown... Madison saved the day via her boy pal! If it makes you feel any better, my former boss...who had one of those RVs that start somewhere in the $600K range...had quite a few adjustment issues during his first few months of ownership as well... Travel carefully, Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
ReplyDeleteHere to a fabulous RV journey! Glad you got the computer worked out too.

What a relief that your computer is okay. Wishing you a safe and fantastic journey. Id' say that your stagecoach is mighty spiffy and has all the creature comforts a road warrior could ask for!
ReplyDeleteHappy travels, Larry! Glad the cable worked :)
ReplyDeleteBless your heart... seems like you always have some kind of glitches when you travel west. Hopefully, you won't have anymore after this first bit... Too bad about the new RV...What a shame.. Glad you got your computer fixed.
ReplyDeleteHave a GREAT trip.
Hugs,
Betsy
When you have a moving 'house' there always seems to be issues that crop up and the new ones need breaking in. We bought our fifth wheel new and within the first trips out needed a new toilet and new front jacks. Now 2 years later we need a new microwave and replaced the kitchen faucet...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful trip and I look forward to hearing what's on the menu!
"On the road again . . . " (Willy Nelson song lyrics). Oh what fun despite the bug-a-boos that you occasionally encounter! Can't wait to read your posts of your newest adventures!
ReplyDeleteHappy trails to you!
Roz
When you get home, you could probably install a new monitor yourself. I was able to do mine for $50 vs the $150 I would have been charged. The hardest part was figuring out how to disassemble the monitor top to get the LCD screen out but I was able to find specific directions for my laptop online.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the few glitches...hopefully there won't be anymore. Have a safe and fun trip!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you got your computer up and running. It would be a long trip without all your important information. Happy travels - hope the glitches are cleared up soon.
ReplyDeleteI have a Ryan to solve problems like that. Good thing Madison found a tech-savvy boyfriend! Hope nothing else crashes through the rest of your trip.
