Catfish, The Other Breakfast Meat

I imagine several folks read this title and said “no need for me to read that,” and my wife would be one of them.  I totally understand that for some, only breakfast food will work in the morning.  Growing up, fish for breakfast was the normal on family fishing trips and to this day I can eat any type of food for any meal at any time of the day – leftover pizza is a breakfast favorite.

We had one piece of fish left from our catfish supper and I decided to turn it in to breakfast along with a couple of sunny side up dippy eggs and a piece of toast for the dipping.  The catfish was seasoned with nothing but salt and pepper and coated with white corn meal – my preferred yellow was in the freezer – and pan fried in canola oil.  The eggs were cooked in canola oil with a little water and a lid on the pan.

Definitely good eats and I was plenty full – I didn’t remember the piece of fish being so large.

Photos best if enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. We frequently eat left-over fish for breakfast when we're not putting it in a taco. You're right - that is a big piece of catfish. They must be growing them big in Mississippi these days.

  4. I am with you. I can pretty much eat anything at breakfast too. The catfish and eggs looks like a great way to start the day Larry.

  5. While camping at Spivey Cove we often ate trout for breakfast. Nothing wrong with that! My husband and you could eat breakfast together every day. No leftover is safe with him around. I have to put sticky notes on it if I need to save it for something.

  8. Larry, It's been a long time since I've had any fish with my eggs, other than salmon. I do remember eating bluegill and eggs many years ago and my stepfather liked to eat kippers and eggs. Not too bad...but definitely distinctive! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  9. I had to chuckle at the title and NO, catfish is not the other breakfast meat! I'm stickin' with Bev on that one. However, it does look good. And love those perfect dippy eggs.

  10. I am hanging with Bev on this one...Although, I can totally appreciate it. I have not been able to develop a taste for fish (sad, sad, I know)-which means I could not do it for breakfast.

  11. I enjoy catfish --but have never eaten it for breakfast. However, I'd love that exact meal with a big piece of ham --or bacon--or sausage.....

    I love 'dippin' eggs.... YUM...

  12. "...eat any type of food for any meal at any time of the day". I'm with you, Larry, and fish would be a treat for breakfast. Actually fish is a treat anytime for us.

Hope all is well with you and Bev and that you are enjoying your travels. I haven't had too much time to blog of late, but do like to stop by from time to time and see what's cookin'! ;) Have a great week!
