Siamese Twin Tomatoes And A Milestone

We’ve seen a few unusual things in the garden this year, but this tomato is the oddest I’ve ever seen in my garden.  It was attached to the plant with one stem that had split and attached in two places to the tomato.  It looks more like two tomatoes just grew together, but the one stem attachment to the plant says otherwise.  You have to look closely to see the two pieces of stem, but they are in a hole that runs between the tomato(s).

This is the top side and you can see a little light through the hole from the other side - at the 10 o'clock position.

And this is the bottom side. The large crack is where it was touching but not grown together

After cutting apart you can see how much was together and the stem which I also cut in half.

Then a few days later, we picked this one, which appears to be triplets.

Have you had any similar experiences?

I began this blog in August 2009 and three years later this is post number 1000 - that's a lot of words.

All photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. Congratulations on 1000 posts Larry. That's quite an achievement and we've enjoyed every word.

I can't get over those tomatoes. Amazing. I've never seen anything like that. I bet they are pretty sliced on a plate if they would stay attached.

  3. A lot of wonderful words and photos that have me drooling at times.

Hey - this is just nature doing her stuff; I'm sure these tomatoes have full on sun-ripened deliciousness.

Congrats and well done, dear Larry!!!

  5. Congratulations on 1000 posts. When you sat down to write your first, did you ever think it would come to this? :) I've seen some odd shaped tomatoes but nothing quite like this.

  6. Congratulations Larry - 1,000 posts is incredible. You win! And the vegetables are so cool. Conjoined twins and triplets must run in your family. I had a bell pepper growing inside another bell pepper one time but my grandmother was the queen of unusual vegetables. She often had three legged carrots with the middle leg a little shorter than the others. She always had a good laugh about that!

  7. Larry, Watch out for the Attack of the Mutant Tomatoes!! Perhaps a little fall out from the nuclear power plant or Oak Ridge? I've never seen a triple tomato before! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  8. You have reached a milestone that most bloggers never see. Congratulations! While my heirloom tomatoes often take strange shapes, I've never seen one like yours. While it is an aside, several months ago I bought a dozen eggs all of which had double yolks. The farmer swears he uses no hormones, but I don't know how that could happen naturally. I no longer buy my eggs from him. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

  9. Congratulations, Dad! That's quite a lot of blogging.

When I got home Sunday, we had company. I managed to get there just in time for lunch, too: grilled turkey burgers. I went ahead and sliced up the tomato you sent with me. One of the guests came into the kitchen, looked at the plate of slices, and said, "That doesn't look like a store-bought tomato; that looks like the real thing." I said that it was from your garden and had probably been picked within the last day or two. She said to her husband, "This is the real deal, honey. Enjoy some Tennessee goodness." And then more tomato slices were eaten than burgers. :) Good stuff in your garden, even if some of it's a little outside the realm of normal. Love you!

  10. Those are some odd tomatoes, but as long as they taste good, it's just a fun oddity, right?

Congratulations on 1000 posts. I think I've read almost all of them! You always entertain!

  11. And I think I've also read them all... eventually! Haven't run into anything odd in my garden though I did receive some massive sized yellow squash, two of which were attached to each other.

  14. Congrats on 1000 posts, Larry. That is AWESOME...

I'm at 848 posts --but since I only do 3 a week now at most, it will take awhile to get to 1000.

Interesting looking tomatoes...I've never seen any like that.

    Have a great Wed.
