Patty Melt Burger Fix

After all of the unique meals we’ve eaten lately, Bev was ready for a burger fix – perhaps her favorite food.  We had meat in the freezer, marble rye left from the weekend and she decided on a patty melt – only my second one ever (link to first one).  Since the rye bread was pretty large and rectangular in shape, I made half pound burgers to match it.

We invited SIL, Pat, and friend, Kathy, to join us and they sipped wine on the deck while I cooked – Bev loves to do that.  Athough normally fried in a pan with butter, I grilled the meat, along with the onions and toasted the bread - after flipping, I topped the meat with our new favorite white Irish cheddar.

My sandwich was built by adding mayo to the bread, laying on the meat, then the grilled onions, tomato, and lettuce.

It was very good and followed by a slice of pie left from the blogger party was all we needed for a filling meal.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. A good juicy patty melt will always take care of a burger craving. Irish cheddar has a real cheesy cheddar flavor and I bet this was a fantastic cheeseburger, I mean patty melt. Speaking of Irish, their butter is our favorite. It has so much more flavor than American butter. It's nice that we see more Irish products here now. Sam

  13. Looks fabulous. Burgers are my favorite. I've always said, if I had to kill my own food, I'd be a vegetarian, but I'd kill a cow for a burger.

  15. I'm never really sure what the difference between a patty melt and a burger are, but I know I like them both very much. These look awesome, Larry. I would have done them all on the grill too.

  16. Patty Melt has to be my all-time favorite burger fix too. Although swiss cheese is my go-to cheese for them, the Irish cheddar would also be very tasty!
