Hitting The Road Again - Colorado Bound

After a fun week each with two of our kids, Sweetie has been repaired and serviced, and Cindy has moved in to look after things, so we are now ready to hit the road for a little while.  Basically our plan is to head for the high country of Colorado to beat the heat but it will have to change some to deliver the lower temps we are hoping for - may have to do Montana next year.

Our travel plan begins with spending seven days getting to Denver and staying there for six full days touring around the area and visiting with friends.  From there we will head across the mountains for a week in Grand Junction as the girls liked it during our last visit and wanted some more time there – we are expecting hot in Denver and GJ so we’ll head up onto the Grand Mesa for cool.

From Grand Junction we will go south to Montrose for 10 days from which we will visit Silverton, Ouray, Telluride, the black Canyon and other points of interest.  Then it will be on to Gunnison for 10 days for visits to Crested Butte, Lake City and the surrounding mountain areas.

Next up is 10 days in Buena Vista, where we spent a few days once before, from which we’ll go to Salida, Aspen, Leadville and perhaps the Royal Gorge.   Finally, we’ll leave CO and head down to Santa Fe, NM for a week to check out what the city has to offer plus visiting Los Alamos and areas north of town – eg. Taos.

From Santa Fe, we’ll take about a week to get home and start getting our place ready for winter.

If you’ve visited these areas, we would really appreciate your advice on places to go, things to do, places to eat, and anything else you think we should know.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  2. We will be in some of the places you're going while you're in Colorado. Maybe we can run into you (figuratively speaking).

  3. Sounds like a fun tour, wish we could spend more time in the US, but do our limit every year in the warmer southern states.
    Looking forward to more postings.

  4. I'm liking the sounds of that trip. So many of my favorite places. Grand Junction, our banana belt is always hot! :/ Last year when we were there in June, it was hovering around 100. Didn't stop us from wine tasting ... as awful as that sounds in the heat. :)

  5. Larry, Big time Trip!! Sorry we missed you and Bev's dock party... We'll get together when you get back. We haven't visited much of Colorado, just the southwestern segment. We also liked Taos and Santa Fe. Good food and lots of shopping for the ladies. I'll go back through my trip photos and see what we might suggest. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

  6. Larry sounds like a great trip. We'll be following your blog as Colorado is one of the few western states we've never visited in the motorhome.

  7. Looks like a great trip. Colorado is so beautiful with its wildflowers and cool mountain temps. I am partial though since I grew up and raised our family there.

  9. Silverton and Telluride are a few of my favorite places ever visited. We can't wait to take another trip out west. You and Bev really do it right! Have an amazing time and I hope you find those cool temperatures. We were in the Rocky Mountain National Park once on the 4th of July and it snowed! You may just find what you're looking for. Enjoy!!!!!
