Home From The Hospital

Well the easy part is over with and I came home Friday with a brand new knee and now begins the hard part - rehab.  This process is composed of three parts beginning with being active and walking as much as possible.  The second part is the eleven exercises that are done three times per day and the last part is going to a rehab center three times per week for more intensive therapy.  The first two items were started in the hospital the day after surgery although we only did the exercises once per day.

This is my home set up which contains most of what I need to function.  If you didn't know otherwise you might ask "what knee surgery?"

After five days of that magnificent hospital food, Bev whipped this up for a Friday night welcome home supper.  We're having the grand opening of a new Kroger superstore in Maryville and she bought a chunk of choice New York Strip for $5.99/lb and the two steaks we wacked off were well marbled, tender, and very tasty.  She grilled the beef to perfection and sided with half of a giant baked potato, it made for a delicious meal.

I'll need to be careful as not much weight will be shed with meals like this one.  Sorry about the pic quality.

Thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South

  1. That looks like an awesome meal though.
Don't eat much anymore like that, the weight loss would feel wonderful if you can manage to get there.

  4. Nothing like a wonderful steak. Keep up those exercises no matter what. I know it's not going to be a whole lot of fun but we're all cheering for you.

  5. I must say, you are a very brave man. Lots of elderly around me are having knee problems and they are hesitating to do the knee replacement surgery, even doctors are strongly suggested to do so. They so worry about the pain and afraid that cannot recover even after the surgery. Hope you are recovering well and soon will share us with delicious food recipes again. :)

  8. Nothing like being back home! You look great! and like I said before, 'you listen to Bev and do what the doctor ordered'! You hear? You don't want me and Pete having to come down there! :) We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  9. My daughter the nurse says the key to successful life after the knee replacement is walking a lot, as if walking is your profession. She says walking will help with the problems created by Bev's marvelous cooking, too. And Dan hates the new Kroger, because the parking is terrible - impossible to find spots, especially one big enough for a pickup truck. Hope your recovery is smooth and your parking at Kroger is easy. Happy Belated Thanksgiving.

  15. That steak looks juicy and it's making me very hungry. You are blessed. My husband, who is so wonderful, just can't cook. I almost starved during my recovery! I ate sandwiches almost every day. Good for Bev!
