2014 Florida Trip – Moving Closer To Home

Our original plan for the Florida trip was to go south for a month and come home, but after checking out the Greenback weather, we decided to stay in Florida another week, but moved 200 miles closer to home – it’s made the two day drive home much easier.

We left the familiar surroundings and new folks we had met at Waters Edge RV Park and moved to Williston Crossing RV Park.  As it turned out, they were offering a half price special on the pull-thru sites in their newer area so we got an added bonus.

The campground is about 6 blocks from downtown Williston and when completed will have about 555 sites – they have around 400 now.  This the original entrance from NE 5th St. into the original part of the park and some of the sites there.

Apparently if you are a long term camper (and maybe multi-year) you can do quite a bit of customizing of your site.

This is the covered bridge between the two areas as well as the new entrance to the new end of the park from FL-121.

This is the pool, pavilion, and power source for the park (not).

The community fire pit requires early arrival for a good seat.

This is our site (#258) and some shots around us.  The new short term sites are not yet as nice from a grounds standpoint and don't rate a picnic table.

They have lots of activities, from Texas holdem to wood carving and line dancing, and a cable channel providing the schedule.  Their website says "North Central Florida's Premier RV Camping Resort" and they seem to be well on their way to getting there.  I would definitely stay here again and recommend this resort to anyone not wanting the warmer temperatures of going further south.

Photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. What a nice place and much fancier than I would have expected for Williston. Safe travels Larry. The cold weather further north may make you guys snowbirds after all.

  3. All the permanent spots look like work to me. Grass to cut and all that upkeep. That's one of the main reasons we got rid of the house - so we didn't have to do yard work. But after all that it really is beautiful. Safe travels north and hopefully no more bad weather.

  4. We stayed there two years ago and used it as a base for exploring Gainsville and Cedar Key. We liked the park but in late March we did have fuzzy caterpillars everywhere falling from the trees and also Leeanne was attacked one night through the screen in the bedroom window by the noseeums. Our fulltiming classmates and bloggers probably just left there http://zeetraveler.blogspot.com/

  6. If Madison's still with you, it's a good thing she's homeschooling. You did miss some nasty weather. I'm sure the rest of this RV park will be wonderful, too; they've done a fine job on the first half.

  7. The long term rentals really did look really nice! The other didn't look too bad either considering. Nice that they have lights like that. It's been over 22 years since I've been camping in a RV park in North Carolina. You didn't have lighted areas unless you hooked up your own light or carried a flash light. As cold as it's been in West Virginia I wouldn't mind to fly to Florida for the rest of the winter! lol Notice I said fly as I really don't ever want to drive that far ever again. I wish I could go but I have 2 kids in school and a husband to take care of! lol They couldn't make it without me! roflol

  8. Larry, you all are closer to us right now. We just got back from snowy NC and would ask you to come and visit, but we are having problems with the kitchen. A leak has caused some major problems with our lower cabinets and David is having to figure out what to do. We may have to replace them. Safe travels north. Hope the weather improves.

  9. Look at all that green! I need something besides snow these days - so ready for Spring! Happy travels - it looks like a very nice park. Get your jackets ready if you're heading north.

  11. Wow, that looks like a great place... I'm so used to seeing such crappy little areas for RV parks (near my home town in Nebraska to be exact). This is so nice to see!!!

  14. What a nice looking park! And a great find for you. And all that green grass and water seems so foreign to me right now. We only have a few patches of brown grass peeking though patches of snow that's melting.

  15. It looks as if you found a beautiful place at which to spend your extra week -- and got a bargain in the process.
