Stir Fry Ala Beverly & A Small Blog Change

Bev decided she wanted to make a stir fry with some of our asparagus and she also wanted some meat in it. She found a couple of small beef filets in the freezer and added a chicken breast from the store – she cut them into about three-bite pieces.  As close as she could guess her recipe was:

2 small beef filets – cut to size of choice
1 chicken breast, boneless & skinless – cut to size of choice
1 “ ginger – fine chop
12 small Asparagus spears – 2” long pieces
1 carrot – sliced thin on a bias
1 celery stalk – thin slice
1 small can water chestnuts
½ large onion – thick slices
2 cloves garlic - minced
1 large shitaki mushroom from our log - ½“ chunks
1 large sweet pepper from our freezer ½“ julienne
Sauce  - 2 parts soy sauce, 1 part hoisin sauce, 1 part oyster sauce – we elected to eat just the stir fry (no starch) so only enough sauce was required for it.
Crushed red pepper to taste
Sesame oil for frying

Heat oil in the wok and fry the beef and chicken to desired doneness – remove to the wire wok rack to keep warm.

Add garlic ginger and veggies to the wok in order of amount of cooking required – carrots first.

When the veggies are about done, add meat and sauce and cook a few minutes, stirring to be sure everything is coated with sauce.

Pour onto a platter to stop the cooking and dig in.

We both thought it was delicious and we ended up eating it all by grazing over the course of the evening.  A neat part was that the asparagus, peppers, garlic, and mushroom came from our garden.

A LITTLE BLOG CHANGE:  When I started this blog, I never intended it become a pure food blog but it has gravitated to be nearly that - I guess because food is something we do every day.  So the change you will notice is Mon, Wed, & Fri will be food days and Sat will remain as humor.  Tue, Thu, & Sun will be devoted to something else or nothing at all if I have nothing worthwhile to post about.  As a reader of several blogs, I've come to appreciate brevity, so I plan to use less words as well.  Hopefully we'll all like the change and after a couple of weeks, I'd like to hear what you think.

All photos can be enlarged by clicking on them.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by Almost Heaven South.

  1. I will have to show Bev's recipe to my stir-fry chef. It sounds delicious. We have a wok we've had for ages and it doesn't get used often enough.

I'm so glad you've decided to keep Humor Saturday in your changes. I admire that you post everyday (although I don't know how you do it) and understand your decision to make some changes.

We'll all be here no matter what you do Larry!

  3. This stir fry looks fantastic! We've been eating just the stir fry, sans rice a lot lately and I love them that way too.

You've made me want a wok even more now! I love how simple it seems to make the process. Does the chicken stay warm on the wire rack that way?

  8. Your change makes sense. I'm having a hard time writing about any one thing, and sometimes I can't think of anything at all!

  9. I love a good stir-fry. Don't know why I don't use that wok more often. Do you have a curved grate holder for your wok? So the wok doesn't sit directly on the flames? One came with my gas stove and man does it work good.

  10. Yum! Does that look good! Why can't I be that creative in the kitchen?

I've got to see what you and Bev come up with for Easter!

    Happy Easter!

  11. Great header, Larry... Like your blog upcoming changes. I found that going to 3 days a week works better for me. I used to blog everyday --and could still do that. BUT--I don't have time to get to others' blogs and leave comments. SO--three days a week seems to work for me.

The stir-fry sounds GREAT.. We eat alot of stir-fry and enjoy it.

Hi Lisa, I am so proud of you for continuing your running routine ---even after having 3 kids!!!!! Exercise is so important --and I never did enough of it all through the years...

We are doing some good hiking now --and I love it (and need it).. This week we took a 4.5 mile hike ... About killed me... ha ha

    Good Luck.

    Happy Easter.
    Hugs to you both,
    Betsy
